Gentlemen, and Ladies... If i may direct your attention to two more attachments contained within this very post, for which i shall also provide captions.

figure 1: The only thing this chap is missing are the sports pages, and his intestines. The lack of toilet facilities in its basic spec proved off putting to purchasers, so we have included two compact toilets/washrooms to improve passenger comfort and hygene. toilet is rated from 0 to 10 g's so you need never be caught short while undergoing an emergency manuver.

figure 2: the "underside compartments" are not, repeat, not to be used to dispense guided missiles, bombs or rockets for use in a hostile fashion. for example in this case it is containing oversize stationary, consisting of a 4.5 meter grey pencil.

These are only provisional (3 are planned in total, one opposing the currently modelled bay, and a centreline position) If you're lucky you might have a control to open these doors, what you do with them afterwards is your own business....

Whether you're being buzzed by UFO's, pestered by pesky pirates, or you're simply a stressed out, underpaid pilot dying for sly smoke in the toilet... worry no more, the MK2 extends your capabilities for the 22nd century!

:) great. So now we can get rid of old procedures of wearing diapers during takeoff and entry, right?

Why not missiles and bombs?? Explosives and projectiles have many peaceful uses!

We need to protect earth from wayward meteors.
Or blow out huge craters to rescue miners..?
Or blow off surface debris for exploration..
Grappler & winch assembly to tow malfunctioning spacecraft & space junk. Wrecker & dustcart.
Ultra powerful communications pod and laser and radar, FLIR.
Spy cameras and optics.
Some sort of tool bay with end effectors like a mini-canadarm or other attachment points.
Flotation rafts could pop out of there.
Jato pods or a RAT.
SuperTurbo thrusters.
Navigation pods.
Skis and skids.
Planetary exploration sensors.
Mini-rockets for launching probes (Hail Probe!!) and nano-sats.
Drop tanks for extra fuel.
Ice melting equipment.
Gas canisters for fogging, gassing and marking areas with powdered dye. Perfect for cropdusting.
Rescue pods and supplies could be dropped from there too.
Firefighting hoses and equipment could be put there.

Somehow include a virtual data bus from the attachment points to the cockpit panel, have a special mfd to monitor and control activities of equipment attached there. Make it all plug-in style, ummu capable. With its own .dll file for easy access to other developers. Uhm yeh.

Grappler and winch can be part of ground support infrastructure, methinks, of course one could always add a 1-tonne anchor to the XR2 in anticipation of reentry into the ocean... :) (no joking, but would hate to carry more mass than needed, even with high Isp engines).

The updates are awesome! what's the size of the bays? any chance I have a new place to hide UCGOs? :P

Hmmm... small, secret cargo bay areas on the Ravenstar?
That's brilliant!
Looks like we'll need some UCGO "contraband" cargo!

Well those are all great ideas, i'm not going to personally make those things or ask doug to code them, but hopefully others will make things that make those compartments useful... well we'll see how it goes anyway.

here's some more... note the new ladder which is partly formed from the floor of the airlock.

Like the new ladder it will make EVA's make more sense.

Is that the air brake up top? if so why change it from the mk1 layout?

Woooah....
Under assumption of the Nosecone remaining the docking port, does this mean we'll now be able to egress from the Airlock on the underbelly for EVAs, even while docked?

Yes. The new geometry allows for this.

Moving on....

Nope. It was mentioned its the Airbrake before. The radiator is the panels sticking out the front of the two vertical fins in the back (look at the side view just posted).

Jeez, you people, have to be more like shinrar and pay attention here....

the airbrake is moved from the elevons to a dedicated upper brake surface in roughly the area that the old radiator used to occupy.

the radiators have been relocated to the extending leading edge of the vertical stabilisers.

Everyone happy? good. I hope you're all taking notes as there will be a lengthy written exam you have to pass before you can download the MK2;)

Coolhand, your meshes are so awesome that they are making me google texturing and modelling tips almost involutarily

that thing is SO awesome!

are you using 3dsMax? (i take it that you are, looking at the biped pilot/toilet-user) - how do you work with textures? do you unwrap, then photoshop? or do you make a base texture and model around it?

any tips would be much appreciated... i find myself taking WAY too long to get good results with texturing, while you make it seem so easy :hmm:

cheers, man!

The same way they get the flavor into cheese-its. :p
...I didn't know cheez-its used Roshal archives...

Coolhand, the new stretched profile is beautiful! One question (I don't think it's been asked yet...?): what is this for?

Is it a fin for stability? It looks a little awkward on that otherwise seamless profile.
