hello guys....girls?

Ive been using orbiter for 3 weeks. I ran it on Vista in the first place but upgraded its OS to win 7. And I seem to have a rather strange problem.
When I launched my Orbiter (anyone) into space the atmosphere was looking what its suppose to look like. And it doesnt brakes the light of the stars anymore passed the stratosphere at an average of 15-16km above the earth surface.

Running orbiter on windows 7 however causes the atmosphere to black out after an altitude of 3000feet. Not only is it blacked out, it is really not even there. Launching spaceshuttle atlantis at 90 degrees angle (like a rocket) it barely reaches 25miles if im lucky before the boosters run out. At that point im flying at barely 1,6 nautical miles which makes me unable to even reach orbit at all.

so something messed up my earth atmosphere. Im not sure if this is affecting any other planets to like venus. I might try it out aswell and let you people know. However I do not know what to do about it, so if annyone can assist me on getting this fixed then I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

The link did solved the atmosphere problem. It looks alot better now. But still i cannot get into orbit with spaceshuttle atlantis. The boosters run out at around 20 - 25miles at 1,6nm.

Any known problems for this spaceshuttle aswell?

Have you gotten into orbit with the Delta Glider first? Thats much more forgiving (you can screw up the profile A LOT and still get into orbit). Shuttle is very hard to achieve orbit with, especially for a beginner

What's "1,6nm" mean?

20-25 miles altitude for SRB sounds about right, it works out to 105,000 feet. Remember that the SRB's fire for around 2 minutes and five seconds and serve to get the shuttle out of the lower atmosphere only.

im a big newb to all this, I might aswell mention it.

but the strange thing is that I took the shuttle into orbit for over several times already when I got it installed on vista. Im not saying it has anything to do with that. There's probably a messed up file somewhere.

The shuttle gets to 20miles when boosters are burned then then it burns the rest of the main fuel tank. But that tank only gets me up to 60miles untill the spacecraft descends into the atmosphere again.

In this launching falling down process which only takes up to 10minutes (so i barely even reach space) the spacecraft reaches a speed of a maximum 2 nautical miles a second, which is reffered as nm if im correct.

10 minutes is about correct.

You're just pointing straight up and burning, I take it? That's not how you get into orbit, you need to build your tangential velocity.

As already mentioned in this thread, the shuttle is very difficult to get into orbit for a beginner. Spend some time with the delta glider until you get a feel for the basics of orbital mechanics.

thanks for your answer,

I also recently discovered a manual which explains all the bits of this program.
Im going to read it thouroughly.

Remember to circularize your orbit with an OMS burn or two.
