Pros: Great scenarios, Great Ships, Great things to do...
Cons: Virtual cockpits arent all that great.
Review:
everything in this addon is fantastic. i love all the diffrent things to do and see, allot of stuff not even glimpsed in the films. on the downside, I am a Virtual cockpit craver, and the virtual cockpits need work. still, fantastic (almost) everything and when is the next version coming out?

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Fantastic. :)

Known issues: The scenarios with the Pod and/or Leonov don't work because there is no dbartles Pod or Leonov for 2010.

Shutdown sometimes crashes with the default Orbiter shutdown option, and I'm not sure why. Go to the launchpad, Extras, Debugging Options, Orbiter Shutdown Options, and change to "Respawn Orbiter". That will mask the problem, even if it doesn't actually fix it.

Excellent work as always, sputnik! Aside from the bugs which I hope gets fixed, this addon is one of my favorites.

Thank you, but this seems as good a time as any to remind everyone that, while Orbithangar lists one author, this is a team effort, and if anything, Alain Hosking (80mileshigh) is far more responsible for this release than I.
All I had to do was re-compile my code. Admittedly, that proved a challenge, but whose fault was that? (Mine).
Alain, meanwhile, found and fixed everything that was wrong with the Cape Canaveral launch site (a lot!), every instance where my choice of the .scn line BASEMESH was picked up by Orbiter 2010's parsing of BASE info, every missing texture (some since v3.1, a few since v3.0!), every .SCN that kept attach point info for catapults with disastrous results; every takeoff that's no longer on the runway because Canaveral moved for 2010; Alain hunted them all down. It took three complete passes through the scenarios, and there are a lot of scenarios!
Alain even wrote his first .dll. Okay, he used Artlav's SC3 compiler to make a .dll from the older Spacecraft2-based Clavius dome, but that counts. And also made for one of the rounds of scenario-checking.

So, please, thank my co-author as well. Without 80mileshigh, there would certainly not be a World of 2001.

Well thanks! It's good to finally have this running in Orbiter 2010.

I guess we've both got a little more work cut out for us with v3.2.

Edit: We should mention that the Canaveral upgrade was essentially a matter of tile-set alignment. With a few exceptions it still represents the work of Wolfgang Schwarz (Nautilus), and his vision of what Canaveral might look like in the 'World of 2001.' Wherever you are Wolfgang - thanks!

I don't fire 2001 up very often (I wonder if any other mod devs spend more time with vector graphic programs than the sim), but I'm suddenly motivated again.

Never said thank you publicly to those of you responsible for this addon. Allow me to rectify it now.

Thank you! I saw 2001 in a theater in Juneau, Alaska at 13 years of age and have never quite been the same ever since. For allowing me to immerse myself in this alternate historical time-line, I bow to your collective brilliance.

2001 ships don't show up!

I'm glad to see the new vrsion of WO2001 for 2010, but the ships don't show up!

I extracted everything to the correct folders, and as far as I can tell, everything went where it was supposed to go, but no ships.

What am I doing wrong?

Jeez,
I've been waiting for this and you released it while I'm on vacation with my Orbiter gear at home!! Now I really have a dilemma.
Thanks to all. It will be great to have WO 2001 upgraded to Orbiter 2010!

Ben

A bit of a nooby question here, but what's the difference between this version and cmoon55's addons?

Cmoon55's addon was centred around Spacecraft3 and thus is, though quite a feat, very limited compared to this one. I would consider his a placeholder while we all waited for Wo2k1 v3 to arrive, and since it has, this (Sputnik's) should be the version everyone uses.

Thanks for your reply, i just have another question, is there a way to change the thruster power, i feel like they're way too overpowered. Also, the orion and Titov are extremely sensitive, especially in atmospheric flight. Even a little bit of movement of the joystick and they quickly change direction.

I cannot get dbartles discovery working with 10 is this a known issue? none of the 2001-2010 vessels work with the 3.1 on my install, any ideas?

This ships needed for this addon aren't compatable with Orbiter 2010. They were made for Orbiter 2006. If you want a world of 2001 addon that does work, PM me and I'll send you the links. I don't know if I'd feel right posting the links in this thread.

With Sputnik's release this cannot be changed. Cmoon55's spacecraft3 version is completely editable by changing values in the included INI configuration files, which you can find in Config\Spacecraft. They can be opened with Notepad or any other text editor. The values you're looking for are MAIN_THRUST and ATTITUDE_THRUST.

I've encountered something I would like to see changed. Titovs with drop tanks attached or Titov boosters(with or with out a Titov on top) spawned by the scenario editor will immediately begin their autopilot. Pressing "O" will stop the autopilot from controlling the vehicles surfaces/RCS, but the engines will remain at full throttle, and the best you can so to stop it is to hold down the minus thrust key. It even happens in the scenario "Aeroflot booster on final approach". I was thinking of taking the Titovs out of Wo2001 to haul smaller loads to a space station I'm dreaming up in my main install, but this unintended acceleration wounded that idea before I could start working that out.

Is it possible to look into this and maybe fix it?

. . .

I have a 10-key number keyboard. That having been prefaced, pressing the asterisk (*) key idles the main engine thrust for me.
