I was thinking and i wondered about the earth. As It Is A Spherical object, you can only get a TRUE 90 Angle i at the north pole and a TRUE 0 Angle at the equator. So, Think of the earth as a protractor...

So What Do You Think

:feedback:

Sorry, could you elaborate? I couldn't quite understand.

:WTF:

(I really need a lolwut pic...)

No, it's not spherical. Earth is a Geoid. And what is a Geoid? Well, it's quite like Earth.

I'm lost.
Okay, I'll catch you up. Zach came up with a theory about right angles at the north pole. Flytandem implied that it sounds like he was stoned. I concurred commenting that smoking whilst contemplating geometry was a bad idea. Keith figured out that 420 is a reference to pot and a light bulb turned on.

To answer your question Zach, you're not thinking about the dimensions. The Earth is constantly curving, even at the north pole. A right angle describes a relationship between the x and y axis, not a relationship to physical space.

The earth's usefulness as a protractor is heavily limited by its size, which makes it rather difficult to place on top of an angle being measured. Moreover, the earth is not a perfect sphere, so the angle would only be correct at the pole or the equator (even then, the angle at the equator may be incorrect due to local variations in terrain).

In order to mitigate the size issue, I might suggest we use Pluto. Maybe those protesters will quiet down if we upgrade Pluto's status to "Huge Protractor." :)

20-20 hindsight and apologies to the forum. Referencing 420 isn't appropriate considering the age range here. My excuse is that in college often in the evening (after 4:20PM) we would have these seemingly brilliant creative thoughts only to rethink it at 9AM the next day and wonder what the heck we were so impressed about. :embarrassed:

:tiphat: I know the feeling. Brilliance in the evening is often not brilliance, but the stress of the day clouding your judgment.
