hi, i haven't played orbiter since just a bit after the orbiter 2010 release, and ive recently been re addicted, i needed to know if any critical updates or addons have been released and just an update on whats been happening, thanks.

Well, Martin released the source code, and we now have multiplayer and collision detection. Just wait until you see the improved graphics!

Of course, I'm joking (though I wish I wasn't:lol:). Nothing to major, except to make sure you download the P1 patch, which adds a few things. Just browse the hangar for any add-ons, as many have come out.

No. You can download the patch from HERE ("Patch 2010P1.7z,") and apply it to your current Orbiter installation without likely adverse effects.

Yes to the first and 'probably not, but don't rule it out' to the second. Install the patch the same way you would install an addon, unzipping to your orbiter directory while preserving file structure. P1 is no great overhaul to Orbiter, but there have been problems with vessels compiled to the June 2010 release. Check to see if any of your addons from that time have been updated. If you have the XR vessels from before August, you will have to reinstall them.

This is only for vessels compiled to version 100606. Vessels compiled against 060929 will still work, as they would still use the VESSEL2 class which has not been changed.

Didn't you get the email about Orbinauts getting first pick in the training pool for Soyuz pilots?

Seriously, Orbiter is a pretty resilient program, and as long as you have a proper mod installer (e.g. Generic Mod Enabler, which I know has a link to it on the forums, since that's how I found it, so just use the search function) you should have no problem plopping your dinner down in front of the computer one evening and coming up with a suite of 2010p1 addons that work for you.

It is always best to install the patch over a clean Orbiter 2010 install, but there is no harm in trying it on your existing install other than it might not work. If it's that big of a hassle then you don't have to install 2010-P1. A widely used addon which I know has been updated between 2010 and 2010-P1 is the XR fleet. If you use those, then you might just have to install Orbiter 2010-P1 fresh and get the latest XR versions to go with it.

That said, 2010-P1 fixed many bugs and introduced some cool features, one of my fav's is the celestial sphere (or background image of the milkyway). Looks much better than the original stars with Orbiter IMHO. Finally, you can easily see what has been changed in the latest versions of Orbiter by viewing the 'patch' log included in the Orbiter package.
