I want to increase my frame rate to increase my experience of Orbiter. Whenever running High-Quality addons like the new Vostok addon my Frame rate drops down to around 5 FPS.
I am running a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Windows Vista with a 1.86 GHz Processor. I have a 32 bit Operating System with 1 GB of RAM. My graphics card is a Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family.
Can somebody please help me?

You're not going to get a better FPS without spending some money.

Ideally, you would buy a "non-laptop" to play orbiter on but if you don't have the money you could consider upgrading to 2 or 4 gigs of ram.

Because it's a laptop, you cant really upgrade your processor.

Other then that, I can't really think of any other ways.

Most Laptops are not that good at doing Graphics related stuff, (there are some expectations).

Basic stuff to improve frame rate are to:

With orbiter
Lower the screen resolution
Disabling AA

With Windows
Disable Font smoothing
Close any non-essential programs

With laptop
Plug it in to the mains and switch the power mode to high performance.
I hope this helps. Allso search function is you friend.

You can also also "disable" your antivirus. It does not stop it, it only disables background tasks. I'm using Norton 360 (a lot of antivirus can do it, including the popular Avast). I right click on the Norton icon, and I click on "Activate silence mode".

Also, if you're not using any other programs, you can make your program in a higher priority in Windows (more processors cycles are used by Orbiter). In Windows XP, go in the Tasks Manager (ctrl-alt-delete), in Process, search for "Orbiter.exe", right click on it, "Define priority" and select "High".

Maybe I did not use the right words, my Windows XP installation is in French. However, you should find it easily.

In most cases, meddling with process Priority is not necessary and you're fine with the default of 8. Processor power saving mode tweak is an important thing to do, but please do not obstruct airways since you can easily fry your laptop. Going to 2 Gb from 1 Gb will have great positive impact on performance, not only in Orbiter but in other apps.

I have an old machine for framerate testing and your 5fps seems very poor.

Test Machine Specs
Celeron 600MHz
384 MB RAM
Ati Radeon 9250 SE 128 MB VRAM
Windows XP Pro SP2

and it achieves 15 FPS with Vostok.

As said before disabling font smoothing (vista boost) can improve fps a little.

Surely you weren't running Earth L11 textures with that setup? I wonder if Solar424 was, that would certainly cause the fps to be very very low.

Well - it's standard orbiter 2010 p1 package an I don't remember if I've installed any texture packages.

Earth_tile.tex is 228 meg
Earth_tile_lmask.tex is 228 meg

Maybe this will help.
