Project G42-200 StarLiner

It upgraded to this new and exciting version. BTW, the forum is still alive and sometimes kickin'.

one thing that sums up quite well why the old delta-winged G42 was redesigned -- RAVENSTAR mkII

with Doug and Steve's work coming along so promisingly, another delta-glider variant craft would be simply redundant, IMHO

plus, the old design wasn't all too realistic... this one is a lot more like something that could actually exist within the century (if politics don't lead men to ruins 'til then)

anyways, i'm not putting this on hold for UDVC... since i'm already at a certain pace with this project, i figured other efforts could wait a bit, at least until WIP-2 is out :hmm:

i hope it's not long... you know how real-life can get in the way of things... right now, it worries me plenty that i have to replace my aging earthly motor vehicle (car)... still, whenever free time presents itself, i try my best to get something useful done :P

give me a couple of weeks... i just wanna have a few more features done before i pack up for round 2

Keep the good work

Nice,i am thinking in downloading it when wip 2 is released, but some effects would turn you project beyond spacecraft3.dll ships, if u keep you good work you will work will be comparable to dan steph is DG and Mr.Beachy is XR Series

I think what he's done so far is already comparable to the DGIV and the XR series.
Having a VC that looks as nice as it does just in WIP 1 is something in itself.
It's only going to get better from here.

Eventually the G42-200 plus the XR2 MKII (whenever it does get finished) will be my main ships in Orbiter.
The G42 for LEO ops, and the XR2 for inter-solar system travel.

Two great ships that both have unique capabilities and are suited to different operations types.

If the VC is a sign of what we are to see in the finished ship, then this is going to exceed the XR2MKII. More systems, different engines for different phases of flight, really promising stuff. And a VC, did I mention that part...look forward to it for sure.

well, ok then -- got some paint on it

crappy pic, i know... but don't worry, we're getting pretty close to the WIP-2 requirements i set up in my head , soon enough you'll get to fly the big '42 again

i still gotta finish animating the ACS and get that bay door to open again... then i just might throw in some RCS exhausts and call it good to go

I think someone along the way will want to bring it back to the original green for old times sake. Keep up the great work Moach

itll be nice to fly it again, the WIP1 has been limited so badly with obselecency (is that a word?) due to WIP2 changes that i havent been in it since... a long time ago.

its even taught me how to re-enter shuttle-style, its awesome!

That spacecraft is seriously cool. It looks like Concorde (which is automatically 100% win), SR-71, Space Shuttle and generic commercial airliner all put together. I love it!

I Took some screenshots of the G42-200 in my first flight.

looking better (coming soon) :P

got RCS exhausts mostly done and all the ACS are animated

i think we may have WIP-2 good to go shortly... if nothing gets in the way... you know how things get in RL :shifty:

i've also made a pretty handy little gauge that shows you the most effective ascent profile for the RAMCASTER phase... still tuning it, tho... it's no good if it throws you off more than it guides you properly :hmm:

a really nice touch, especially for budding Orbinauts (or experienced ones) who cant quite nail that perfect ascent

and IMHO, i think you should make the texture a little lighter, it looks like it cant make its mind up between USAF and Commercial Airliner at the minute

I made that pic my desktop background! Looking good

Well in space, wouldn't the best colour be white? Dont want the sun to heat up the ship too much while its up there.

thats the strange thing about heat.

White - Heats up fast, cools down fast.
Black - Heats up slow, cools down slow.

Black objects radiate most efficiently, but white reflects most efficiently. Overall, black is slightly better, but only by a small margin. After all, the shuttles were white, the Apollo was reflective and the ATV is white...

its the other way around i believe, since white is the most efficient reflector, and the LEAST efficient radiator

as evidence, Stars' radiation is simplified by assuming they radiate as Black Bodies, because their radiation is most efficient and can be simplified to L=[rho]*[surface area]*[absolute temperature]^4 where [rho] is a constant

makes sense... that being why the shuttle is white on top and black on the bottom... :hmm:

anyways... it's just a repaint job... the color is inspired by the XR2... could be lighter too... skins will be interchangeable further on, anyways....

hang on, give me a sec to dig out my GSCE physics book.

Ah, yes, you are correct. oops.
amended information:
White - Heats up slow, cools down slow.
Black - Heats up fast, cools down fast.

I should have known that, I'm doing Triple Science as one of my GCSE options.

its a good job im about to wrap up my A-Levels then, or else Orbiter physics as we know it could have been destroyed!

if you do physics at A-Level, and your as obnoxious as I am (when im in a "Physics mood" at least) you just start to think of reasons why Physics (and AQA in paticular) are wrong... not hard when you're doing Astrophysics and you realise just how little we know
