Has anyone here deleted their Facebook account? I did back in August 2010, I started mine in late July 2009, and actually began to use it in September of that year.

I deleted mine for a number of reasons, the main one being that there were people that I didn't really want to be friends with, but didn't want to unfriend/reject the request because it would be awkward around them when school started. Over summer 2010, I went from 212 friends to 90.

I did a year or so ago, but reinstated it to stop people hitting on my girlfriend via Facebook (how lame is that anyway??)

She deleted hers earlier this week, so I'll probably do so again.

I have a facebook account and about 50 friends. I've not logged onto the place since January of this year. I'll keep the account though as it has it's uses.

I have a facebook account which was made for me, along with the rest; myspace, bebo and other failed attempts to become what facebook has managed to carve out for itself, the de facto internet-based social network.

I'm not entirely happy with a lot of its features, so I choose not to use them - such as any applications beyond the core (things like "Photos" etc., you can't delete them anyway), and the like. I use it to keep in contact with old friends from high school, previous jobs, college etc, current friends, my partner (occasionally), and a few friends from Orbiter-Forum too.

Beyond checking for messages from the above people, I hardly use it at all, so it might as well be a glorified email inbox for me. (And lord knows I have enough of those already...)

Had one in local facebook clone. Removed it a few years ago as the thing were becoming more and more commercialized and spam/virus-ridden.

Not particularly useful to have - once the hype goes out on such projects they are getting filled with poo and quickly loose any point of being there. I think social networking would be a passing fad soon, or evolve into something new.

I have a Facebook account, but I only use it to follow official accounts of organisations I like (NASA etc.).

I rarely post anything on my wall, and I don't use it to keep up with my friends. Why people feel the need to post photos of themselves getting absolutely plastered at last night's party, then share them with everyone they know is beyond me. I may like hanging out with you on lunch breaks, but that doesn't mean I want to log on on Saturday morning and see photos of you throwing up in a plant pot.

I have one and use it all the time. I seem to be one of the few people who seems to 'friend' people on Facebook only if they are my friend in real life. I only have a couple of workmates as friends (the ones that actually are friends) and ditto with old school mates. I don't keep up with most of my old school mates for a very good reason - I don't care that much what they are doing and there is a good reason we lost contact, ergo I don't befriend them on Facebook because I don't care about what they ate for dinner or pictures if their kids who I've never seen eating an ice-cream. I have no problems rejecting friend requests or defriending people I've long since lost contact with or met on holiday for just a week.

As such I only have about 70 friends on Facebook and am interested in all the updates from them as these people I am interested in.

I find the idea of deleting it somewhat appealing, but I have found that, socially, it has become essential to have one in High School. I would literally not know of any events in the weekend if I didn't have one. Not like I go to those things anyway though

Remember one thing: before deleting your account, delete everything. Unfriend everybody in your list and delete all of the pictures. And even that may not be enough.

I have 9 friends, 6 are family. I use it prettymuch only to communicate to this one friend(Harry), since email is only email, and facebook has chat. (He lives 8 hours away)
I only friend people I have met, too. (Well except for Harry (It's not his real name, it just sounds similar:P)) Occasionally, I get updates from Michio Kaku, but it's mostly old stuff.

I have one, but keep it intentionally vague and limit my friends to family and people I actually know. It's mostly there just to provide a means of contact.

Started an fb account 2 years ago because my girlfriend at the time had one. Got to the point where she would consistantly chat with one of her girlfriends for hours on end, even though that friend was literally in the very next hotel room.

I realized at that point how absurdly addictive FB could be, and after my girlfriend and I split up, I quickly stopped using it altogether. Don't think I've even logged onto it once in the last 6 months. I'll likely leave it open though. You never know when Joe-blow-tool-jock-from-high-school-who-never-actually-talked-to-me-back-in-the-day might really need to get in contact with me. And I guess it can provide an occassional chuckle, hearing about how people's plans had to be changed because of bad life decisions. Not that I don't empathize, but high school was a bit torturous for me, so sometimes hearing about, for example, the jerk quarterback, who was going to be a star in the NFL, who got busted for meth in college and now is a manager of the local Burger King ... karma, I'd say.

I'm much the same. I've got 63 friends on my list, of which there are around 4 that I've never met in person but know from my travels around the internet, and 1 person who I have never met and don't know why I'm friends with her! I have two or three people I knew in school who aren't technically still my friends, but they're not doing any harm there - I did have a friend purge a while back and got rid of everyone I was in school with.

Some of my friends have friend lists that reach four figures! Their news feed page must go so fast it would be hard to read the information!

Eh, what is that Facebook you're talking about?

Hmm, I haven't really had any problems with Facebook. It's usually a nice fun and quick diversion. There have been a few periods where I don't feel like logging in at all, but that usually happens for all websites I frequent.
