Documentary about the Columbia disaster.

Sensationalist crap, with fake computer displays, added sound FX for the shock value, and blatantly sensationalist interview with 'former' mission controller. And lots of bad detail.

This is why no one watches TV any more.

I have to agree that the majority of Documentaries these days is almost impossible to watch. FOX-like crap.

Although about Challenger and not Columbia, but this is a good example of what can be called documentary:

I stopped to watch such documentaries on popular tv stations as I became interested in space shuttles, and realized that at least 50% of things in "such documents" are bull:censored:. People watch it and can't accept that they are wrong ("I watched it, so I know better than you").

It's not the worst documentary but not the best. The flight deck scenes with the alarms were stupid drama additions that were utterly not required.

By the way, Jim Oberg is a real ex-NASA mission controller.

If you are looking for good Shuttle docus, this is one that shouldn't be missed in everyones collection:

I found it occasionally just a few moments ago. To my surprise it's finally a HD version. No hectic camera shakes, no hectic cuts. No stupid sensationalist soundtracks and effects. Just informative and only original recordings. I have seen this many years ago for the first time on German television (in the 90s). And I still love to watch it :)

Download it as soon as you can. You'll never know how long something is available on youtube before the user deletes it for some reason or makes it private.

And I also recommend the Shuttle part from the "when we left earth" series. It's not too crapy. It has got nice soundtracks and nice shots. It's actually one of the best Shuttle docus I know of.

That's unfortunately not the case: the majority of people watch TV and hold what "TV personalities" say in great esteem. What is said in papers and on TV news is The Truth, period. What celebrities like Oprah say is gospel, end of line. That's why media moguls like Murdoch enjoy almost godlike power.

If you don't believe me, ask any person in the street: information delivered by TV is not questioned; information you put together from independent sources on the internet and verified through multiple sources will be dismissed with a polite chuckle and a dismissive gesture (if you're lucky).

Ipse dixit is alive and well.

So true, there's too much basso-profoundo and rumbling and over-dramatic swooshing in many recent videos. Especially sci-fi stuff.

Not to mention that the average camera shot length is less than 1 second today. While back in the 70's it would have been 5 to 7 seconds or in some cases, much longer. Seems like directors are over caffeinated and twitchy-nervous ..

Well anyways, while I was watching this, a tiny pillbug started crawling up from the window ledges and curiously traced out the ascent path with remarkable accuracy. And tracked a round path along most of the wall. Before he went behind the shadow of my desk I scooped him up and ate it.
