I think Format Wars makes sense. I would have had ten thousand blu-ray disks flying around the frame, but due to budget and time constraints we couldn't do it.

Don't worry! I'm going to release a Special Edition with digitally enhanced effects. Afterwards, I'm going to attempt to wipe all original copies of the movie off the face of the earth. The best part is that even though fans of the original will hate me, I'll make tons of money!

Okay guys, guess who I'm supposed to be...

The Anti-christ

Seriously? The anti-Christ?

The Internet is serious business :P

Quite simply, I'm a purist. My brother had the Original trilogy on VHS, and I loved to watch them over and over. The 'new' stuff just isn't good for me. If Lucas so much as dares to touch Indy, heads will roll.

Sorry, guys. This:

in my opinion is still the original and undisputed Antichrist. ;)

They're his movies so if he wants to change them, he can. I really can't tell any real difference worth all this conflict.

"When they goin' to Bodlygo? They ain't never been to Boldlygo..."

- Henry Cho, talking about his idiot friend JB Stewart, wondering when the crew of the Enterprise was every going to travel "to Boldlygo, where no man has gone before."

You do realize I wasn't talking about "Format Wars", right?

Apparently, "about a cubic smoot" is an unacceptable approximation for 5m^3. Neither is "1 part per million multiplied by a kilometer's kilometer" for 1 km^2. We were discussing rough conversions within a tolerance.

Yeah, I know.

Anyway, Lucas can do whatever he feels like with his movies. The problem is his reluctance to release the originals. His disrespect towards fans the original movies is shameful and arrogant.

I wouldn't go that far. He's under no obligation to re-release the originals. (OTOH, I'd prefer copyright laws closer to the US Copyright Act of 1790 than to the terms of the Berne Convention, and under the Copyright Act of 1790, while he still wouldn't be under any obligation to re-release the originals, he wouldn't be able to prevent anyone else from doing so by now).

That said, just because he isn't under any obligation to re-release the originals doesn't mean we're under any obligation to like the new material.

It's like he's trying to erase the original films from the face of the Earth, while making small changes with each new release. The changes he makes shows how he doesn't understand the movies at all in the first place (Luke's unnecessary scream at the end of Empire, or the stupid pop-song in Jabba's Palace which is completely out of place).

Whaaaaaaaat? As the creator, he understands the movies better than anyone else could *by definition*. Now, he may not understand *why the originals were popular*, and the things that made them popular may not line up with his vision, but please don't pull any of this "death of the author" BS and claim that he doesn't understand the movies. I don't necessarily like all the changes he's made, but I am quite confident he understands the movies better than I do.

Hey Lucas- people like these movies the way they were!

So? If he prefers the unpopular forms of the movies to the popular forms, he has every right to release them instead. He just won't make as much money off of them.

Alchemy has it all wrong. Changing lead to gold isn't the problem. Get working on making unobtainium from someobtainium.
