Not sure where to post this so I'll just post it here.

While browsing videos on Youtube, I found this video:

Quickly pause the video at 0:19. During the montage, there is a cockpit that looks like it was based off the XR series. If the video goes too fast for you to pause it, the cockpit looks like this:

This would be nice for a lander VC...

How can that not *BE* Orbiter and the XR series..?
I don't know what to make of it though..

LOL, the displays at least are taken from Orbiter, the rest is not, we don't have such good shading models yet in real-time. ;)

Yes. Unfortunately, I think the displays were just pasted on (lunar landers don't have SCRAM engines ). Still, though.

Are we sure this is an official NASA video?

It could be a compilation of several Youtube videos. Some of the parts of it were in this video:

Those are definitely XR panels. I wonder if Coolhand/Doug know about their work being used here... :uhh:

oh my, this time it really is orbiter :hmm:

doesn't really "feel" like a NASA video.... they're usually not that fast-paced, unless they're trying something new

but uhmm.... i want that lander... addon, anyone?

I really want to see Orbiter mature graphically. The core and the simulation is good enough to solely concentrate on the graphical front end. To bring it to today's standards. Because as of now it is graphically stuck in 2005, and no amount of high textures is ever going to fix that.

As of late, NASA has attempted to be increasingly "hip":

Actually, I think I see Orbiter in there too. Orbit MFD at 00:15...

XR2 re-entry display for a lunar lander...

Wow, this is nutty. They definitely grabbed a screencap of Orbit MFD and the XR panels and pasted them into this render.

Lazy...

I don't understand why someone might complain about this use, I find it fascinating. NASA using our simulator, if that is not cool I don't know what is.

It would seem OrbitMFD gets everywhere!!

BTW, I know Coolhand did the XR2 and its textures, but did he draw the 2d panels as well?

Not only does the lunar lander not look like the XR2, but it could not sirvive re-entry anyway.

And has anyone noticed that OrbitMFD is set as Earth Reference and shows it to be in LEO, but in fact it is 100,000KM away from Earth.

0:17 more accurately. Good catch !

Weird idea to introduce a space mission like an action movie. In space, every move is slow to avoid wasting energy, and each operation is done very carefully. The fine approach of the asteroid would take 2 days, easily, at extremely low relative velocities...
