Gaming Hielor's Minecraft Server

IRON FARM GUIDELINES

My presence in the server will be lower due to studying reasons next 2 months.

So I would like to give some guidelines to operate properly the Iron Farm:

The Iron Farm consists about two main structures: The Collector ( Yellow circle ) and The Towers ( Red Circles ).

The Iron Farm is also the source for the iron that fills the minecart dispenser at the nether main hub.

(Important Note: It's absolutely prohibited to place a wood door in all the desert, you will see all the doors in the buildings are iron doors)

-The Collector have the system to store and kill Iron Golems and to give to the user the iron ingots and roses.

-The Towers consists into a set of artificial villages that are designed to naturally allow 16 villagers which is enough to spawn Iron Golems. There are 5 spawning cells or artificial villages in the Iron Farm.
The villagers are contained in a boxes with water so they are safe from mobs or falling from the cell. Each cell have more than a box except the one at TOWER 3, this way if something happens and the villagers of a box are killed the other box will spawn more villagers in order to have 16 villagers again to continue the Iron Golems spawning.

-Tower 3: Tower 3 is a bit special, it holds 100 villagers with the objective to rise the output of the farm, on the other hand it only have one box.

(Check the attached photo to see better where the structures are on the farm.)

There is also a rail network ( Green lines ); This network had been used to bring villagers to the spawning cells. At the present the only rail that works 100% is the one that connects the villager farm with the TOWER 3 (Update: ( 29/11/2012) this railway doesnt exists anymore, it have been replaced with a more flexible and safe system). The other line still works and arrive to the top cell of TOWER 2.

-Operating: The user that wants to operate the Iron Farm must go to the Collector and activate the crusher with the pressure plate in order to obtain iron ingots and roses.

IMPORTANT: If the user feels that the output is too low he will have to check some things: first take a walk to the basis of each tower to make sure the chunks are loaded ( I usually do this when I join ) If the user still feels the output is too low there can be other problems like some iron golems being stuck in the tubes. Normally this happens on the point where the tubes from TOWER 1 and TOWER 2 join, I think I've solved it but its not 100% sure. If the user still feels the output is too low => Check MAINTENACE.

-MAINTENANCE: The maintenance of the farm is as easy as to check all the villager boxes to be sure any villager is dead and to check if an Iron Golem is in a box (Iron Golems in a box is a rare problem that only have happened twice) there are also other places where there can be Iron Golems like in the top of the cell, etc. If a cell have an Iron Golem there the cell is not working, the Iron Golem must be killed to make sure the cell is working normally again. If the user still feels the output is too low, sorry more towers will come later. :)
The problems due to serious damage should be obvious to the naked eye, as a broken tube or a destroyed cell.

Other maintenace works doesnt solve output problems directly and wont be wrote here.

I will keep this post updated with news about structures and systems about the Iron Farm.

This project wouldn't be possible without orb_ and Woo482 who provided materials and help with bringing the villagers to the place.

I've added a link to Gerdih's post to the OP of this thread in a new section. I think it would be a good idea to collect any "info" posts from players there, like TL8's rules for the commune (wherever it is...)

Can you guys please suggest other posts that I should link from the first post? I don't really have time to comb through the 130 pages of this thread at the moment...

I propose maps of the lands with names and rail lines. Dont remember where are the posts right now...

Hopefully, it will get extended.
It will. I have a map of all finished rail lines in Nether, as of the last weekend, but they are all marked with black color (except for those already posted). :P

Nothing to see here, RUN!!!!!

My new biodome tower, inside you will find Sheep in all the colours available for shearing, Cows, Pigs, a cane field and a cobble gen. below there is a wheat field, melon & pumpkin farm and coco farm. I'm planning on adding chicken farm and to make an automated cane farm. Feel free to use anything there, as long as you don't kill the sheep, keep the numbers of cows and pigs above four of each and replant any of the other bits.

The Ice Cube,
512 blocks of ice, frozen in place.
Anyone in need of ice can get some from the chest inside.

Golden Mirror base (overworld from Gold Farm) is now equipped with a full auto cobblestone generator.

To operate, stand in reach of the front blocks, but out of reach of the next block behind them, point so as to cover both blocks at once.
Now, fix your left mouse button down with something heavy, and go take a nap or read a book - cobble will just flow.

Design inspired by Sky City cobblestone generator.

Well, as much of a nap as 4 minutes are before the iron pick breaks...
Still good enough to read a book, however, since you can determine the breakage moment by the sound.

Gold Farm chronicles.

The big problem with farming gold is to produce pigmen superspawn in the desired location.
That means covering up large area with half-slabs or lava.
Having a big lava lake helps, but there is no lake big enough to help completely.

So, the area 128 blocks in radius should get covered, that includes all levels, caves, caves above the ceiling and caves below the lava.
Here is the progress so far:
nether_121128.jpg

Lots of areas east and west remain uncovered, and i haven't tried reaching underlava caves. The caves above the ceiling are covered, however.
The north direction is mostly done, the south is still kind of patchy.

There is a primitive collector in the middle, and the production rate is so far negligible.
This comes to show that the farm would not operate unless superspawn is achieved, i.e. coverage of above 99% of the area.
The size of the collector does not matter, as long as the player(s) stay in the centre of the covered area.

Ghasts are a problem during construction, but they are easy to guard against during operation.

For anyone: If you visit my lighthouse by getting there from Nether, you can see a gate protecting the exit from the portal. Please don't break the button and move the stair block around manually, to get out of the portal frame (the way I found the gate when I logged in today), but instead move closer to the gate and press the button on the left side (BTW, on the right side there is a sign telling you that the button opening the gate is on the opposite side). :P

If the gate doesn't open, wait until it will open and close immediately (this means the world around was loaded, and the dimension load lag has finally ended), and then press the button again. The close delay should be sufficient for everyone to get outside or inside the portal. It's 2 full repeaters long from the button depress event.

BTW, Artlav, how do you make that map of the nether?
Automap add-on. It adds a minimap, which can be expanded.

Gold Farm status update.
6 pigmen per hour, 2 ingots per day.
Better than two nuggets a day yesterday, but still far cry from fully operational.

Problems - experimental spawner, probably insufficient slab coverage.
The spawn denial area must be a sphere of 128 radius with the player at the centre, so most attention is required at the bottom layers.

Here are the current coverage maps, from lowest layer to upper.
The map is approximately 256x256.

Unfortunately, I will have to take a break from Minecraft due to school work (as well as other stuff on the internet). I did fix some of the bookshelves using the books that survived the explosion (+ wood from the tree farm), as well as the fence, floor, and some parts of the wall.

I went to the recently discovered mushroom island today to add a marker to it ("Cape Mushroom" :P), and I noticed something strange on the sea -- no squids spawning at all (at least I didn't have to worry about my boat being destroyed).

Thanks for the work you did to fix those parts, as well as the additional torches. I've repaired the rest (a few glass panes, iron door & pressure plates).

Since you placed the signs communicating what happened, they are still there.
