Gaming TES V: Skyrim discussion thread

I got it this afternoon; I'm a level 4 Nord with way too much to carry.

I REALLY wish Bethesda put in a screen adjuster.

To my surprise the program detected my system and put settings to "high".
I quess my graphic card isn't as bad as I thought.
It's pretty gorgeous.
Leveling is a bit fast though.
Still busy with my first dungeon and I'm already level 4.
( Oke, it's a big one but still....)

My experience is as follows:

It's good so far. Feels a lot like Oblivion (which is only to be expected, I guess!)

Leveling will be a lot faster than Oblivion since any skill levels count toward leveling, not just major ones.

I've found that the interface is a lot easier and more fun with a pure spellcaster. I'm starting to get used to it, but it's still annoying me that I need to pause to switch loadouts when a hotkey could do the same. I also discovered that the aim point with bows is all screwed up--the arrow actually shoots above where you aim, so you have to either point directly at the target or even lower than it in order to hit. I much preferred Oblivion's method of needing to properly arc your shots.

You can assign hotkeys by pressing a number while having something selected in the favorites. Simply press the hotkey to get it into the main hand and shift+hotkey for off-hand.

On a related note, IMHO, this is one of the worst console ports since GTA4.

I'm downloading it now from Steam, hopefully it'll be done soon.

Yeah, better to leave them skillbooks alone if your character is not interested in such a skill.

I figured out how to set the hotkey numbers (since it's the same as Oblivion), but as for equipping--that's not how it's working for me at all. Shift-hotkey doesn't change the behavior.

Weapons always show up in the mainhand and replace whatever I have there. No combination of shift/alt/ctrl when setting the hotkey number will cause it to show up in my offhand. In order to get a weapon into my offhand I need to open the favorites menu and right-click it.

Spells always show up in the offhand, unless that particular spell is already in my offhand, in which case it'll show up in my mainhand as well. As far as I can tell there's no way to use a hotkey to make a spell replace my mainhand but not my offhand.

Also, weapon switches require sheathing/unsheathing (makes sense, of course). Spells change instantly.

The system was clearly designed with spellcasting in mind, as is also evident by the fact that you can't attack any faster with an offhand than a mainhand (that is, if you have a dagger in your offhand, you can't attack immediately after a mainhand swing--you have to wait until you would've been able to make a mainhand swing anyway). The only thing I can see a reason to dual-wield weapons for is two-weapon power attacks, or possibly having different enchantments/poisons.

Spent about three hours playing already. Feels a lot like Fallout 3, really, only without the guns. Looks good, runs great on high settings and 1600x900 with my HD 6790. Looking forward to kleptomania, stealthy murderings and houses piled high with booty.

That's probably due to Fallout 3 being based on TES IV's engine and mechanics.

Do not press the Z key when there is a NPC in front of you.

Unless you want a gooey mess.

So what class is everyone playing? Breton Battlemage here.

Wood elf sneaky/stabby/ranger thing.

15x sneak attack on daggers is so overpowered.

i thought it was 12x?

anyway, i got myself a wierd combination, half sneaky ranger, half greatsword!

i figured why not have a greatsword for those close encounters

and btw, Smithing is the way to go... as long as you can find enough steel to forge (which i cant :( )

I'm playing a Nordic Thief / Destruction & Restoration Mage. It's still early, though, so I may branch out into more magic schools.

I played Oblivion as a warrior, but I'm having a blast so far!

http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sneak Assassin's Blade perk, total of 15x :D

Archery is useful in close range, right-clicking without an arrow knocked staggers the opponent briefly.

Dragon slayer here.
Putting al my perks in two handed weapons and heavy armour.
Together with my mate Faendal, who's a pretty good shot, I'm doing quite well thil now.
Perhaps I'm going to bring in a bit more strategy and develope that archery thing a little.
Smithing and enchanting for later.

Male Imperial Warrior-ish over here. After I finish the main quest (Probably going to be a while, mostly been side-questing so far) I'm probably going to go for a Female Wood Elf Rogue/Assassin, which is an inevitable character for me in TES games.

On another note, anybody else tried fighting a Hargraven yet? I got my :censored: kicked at least four times before I finally killed one. :@

Edit: Does anyone know if your Housecarl you get from Winterun goes back somewhere if you lose her, I kind of abandonded her in Haafingar.

I had some hilarious defeats with giants.
