Good evening everyone,

I am currently working with the IMFD Playback #5 Earth To Mars tutorial and have ran into an issue with o2 being depleted.

After the MFD's are all set up and the time warp begins for the launch window, all of a sudden the crew is dead due to lack of o2. I have gone so far as to edit the scn file and placed the 02 consumption line to read 0 which is no o2 usage.

Btw, I am running the scenario on two different computers. One computer has the #5 Playback scenario running so I can pause when needed. I created a custom XR-2 scenario on the main computer so I can follow along and pause as needed without being dependant on the speed of the playback. When time warping on the custom scenario, the crew never runs out of o2.

Am I missing something here? Maybe it is a cfg file issue?

Advice would be appreciated,

Shawn

Hey, is this the one by me and Tommy?

If so, I need a bit more information:
It's been a while since I made these...IIRC they're in the XR2 Ravenstar, correct?
Also, when is it exactly that the O2 depletion happens? If you could give a sim time that would be great.
Also, is this a bug like where you're on the ground, and suddenly the time warp goes up and in the blink of an eye you're off to Mars, or what exactly is happening?

Let me know,
Mark

Hello Mark and thanks for the reply..

Regarding whom it is from, I am not sure.. The manual says it is from "Mark and Tom" so I guess that is you!:)

Basically, I am sitting on the ground in the XR2 and following the tutorial along..Once the data is set up on the ground, we go into the next phase and this is what follows..

Btw, I used IMFD back in 2002 and managed a great flight to Mars. I am really happy that this MFD has survived and is being updated.. My thanks go out to you!

The next phase says

"Time warping to until ejection point. Note that you will rarely get a launch window 5 days after you started the scenario, but since I had flown the flight multiple times, I started the playback 5 days away from the launch time."
Then, the playback proceeds to go into "time warp" at which time the crew message pops up saying the crew are dead due to lack of o2.

There is one other little quirk that pops up.. Whenever I hit the AB button, after orbit insert, the system regardless of earth orbit, points the xr2 to the correct burn attitude disregarding where I am in relation to earth. Basically, if I hit the AB once I am in orbit, the AB function will turn and plow me right back into earth because mars is on the other side:).

All is not lost!

I did manage to orbit around earth until I thought I was in the right place and execute an "AB" burn. This was a trial and error via quick saves until the ship did not turn and try and intercept earth on the burn. This put me on course for Mars with the following parameters..

PET=27.04
PEV=2.278
PEA=3.231G
Dst=1.246AU
HED=94.328
EQI=70.324

I know I am out of alignment in one plane and off on the other but I am such a rookie, I don't know which plane:) It's been a long time:)

Something else I realize is I have to be doing something wrong!

Thanks again.....

Respectfully,

Shawn

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the O2. The XR-2 should be using external cooling at start up, and should be using external O2. It's possible that with newer versions of the XR that using eternal cooling doesn't automatically mean you are using external O2.

Another thing is that I don't believe we used config over-rides when creating those recordings. You'll need to edit your XR-2 prefs file (IIRC is in Config/Vessels) to adjust the O2 usage.

The second problem, with the AB pointing you into the Earth, indicates an error in your set-up somewhere. Are you using the AB in Target Intercept to perform the ejection burn? You should be using Orbit Eject's AB, and you may have forgotten to set it to "Course" (rather than Higher Orbit). Another likely possibility is that you haven't set the TEj in Orbit Eject, and it's already at TEj = 0. If this is the case, increase the TEj until the dV shown is at it's minimum.

If none of this helps, post a scenario file where you are experiencing this problem. You can cut and paste (please use code tags), or upload the .scn as an attachment (preferred method).

Between Mark and I, I'm sure we'll figure it out!

Thanks for the advice Tommy!

Later this evening,

I'll give it another go and see what happens.
