Well, it's time for some summer football again.

Anyone here still have some, um, hope for England this year? (um, me) :LOL!:

Here's my predictions for the group and knock-out stages:

Quarter-finals
-----------------------------------------

Russia vs Germany

Spain vs France

Netherlands vs Czech Republic

England vs Italy

Semi-finals
-----------------------------------------

Germany vs Spain

Netherlands vs England

Final: Germany vs England, with England winning a narrow victory

Let's see how much I got right (hint: two years ago, I predicted 11 out of 16 teams that got to the knock-out stages, and two out of the four semi-finalists)... :P

Being on the topic, is someone actually going to Poland to see it live?

First match in a little over two hours! (unfortunately I didn't subscribe to the TV station that broadcast the matches..... but at $10 US per month....)

Today's prediction:

Poland 1:1 Greece

Russia 2:1 Czech Republic

Poland 2:0 Greece

Russia 2:2 Czech Republic

Poland has Lewandowski, Czech Republic is already named after Peter Czech. ;)

This year my national team isn't that strong...

Actually that fact that this time we go a little more humble (no talk about reaching the finals) might be for the best.
In previous occasions expectations were so high and unrealistic that it hurt the players performance.

Let's see how things go tomorrow against Germany.

As for racism, I can't understand it. Our national football old glory is Eusebio. He is black and was a national star in 1966 , and that under a fascist regime... So color already was not a problem then.
Currently we have naturalized Brazilian players, white, black people and a gypsy on our national team. It's simply a non issue. I guess that people simply moved beyond prejudice. I'm sad to see that some people still haven't evolved to that stage...

As I see it, the Portuguese team is as strong as ever - despite the loosing streak of 2012 - it simply only slowly realizes that Christiano Ronaldo is one of the most overestimated players in the world. He has been pretty gifted and a great talent, but this hyping of him has done him bad. Currently, he plays in a way that even my (already dead) grandmother could play better football in Madrid than him. He should get the Helmes treatment in Wolfsburg: Magath sent Patrick Helmes to the amateur team for a few weeks for better physical endurance and more success events as striker, and he came back as one of the best strikers of the second half of the season and with a lot more sense of being just one of a team of eleven.

The team is very important in football and Ronaldo is an alien there. If Ronaldo gets injured early in the game, Germany could get a loss in the first game. With Ronaldo and even with Boateng playing as defender against him, Portugal will see no land.

Match result: Poland 1 : 1 Greece

Nothing like a month of football matches to take one's mind away from everyday's problems.

You need to ask Robben and van Persie why all their shots are all over the place..... (remember Bayern Munich @ Champions League final in May? ;))

Righteous win for Germany.
Time for the Netherlands to replace some of the oldies.
They don't wanna suffer much pain anymore.

Yeah, but keep Van Persie. The only one who really caused work.

It has to be said that Netherlands also showed actually all known weaknesses yesterday, especially the big distance between forwards doing counter-pressing and the midfielders in the defense (For the not so football-affine: Trying to get the ball back in possession aggressively after a loss of possession), that one weakness caused pretty many chances for Germany.

But still... the first goal of Gomez was just awesome. I would have stumbled over my own feet three times when attempting this move.

BTW.... did somebody notice that this was the first time since 1996, that Germany did win the second game in a tournament?

BTW²... Who else did see the German coach Löw play a trick against the ball-boy during the game, but before the first goal?

BTW³... I still search for a video clip of the stronger build bald man celebrating the second German goal. EPIC.

how the hell Neo-Nazi ideology can exist in the Slavs? considering that Hitler would have made slaves out of them if the Third Reich did prevail.

Wrong label... it is just fascism, these groups are behaving like Nazis, without being actually the same. Eastern Europe is currently full of them, but I suspect the cause is just simple history... after decades of communism, you now have the first generation that can swing to the opposite extreme of the political spectrum.

BTW³: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I had been searching for this one the whole morning :)
