Project XR3 Phoenix (WIP)

Correct me if this idea is stupid, but what if you had a variant of the XR-3 that replaces the cargo bay with a passenger cabin for "space liners" but kept the docking bay, and this just being one of two variants, cargo for bulk freight to moons and space stations, and passenger space liners for hauling passengers around the solar system, or probably in this case more from the earth to the moon and vice-versa.

Theoretically it's not bad idea - however keep in mind that both dbeachy1 and I devote our free time to add-on developement. It may be simple at first glance but but 3d meshing is really time consuming and I already stealing as much free time for Orbiter as I can without harming my personal or professional life.

From first sketches up till now XR3 took me ~30hours. I had to learn some modelling techniques from scratch and the most time consuming part is still before me as well as few skills I must learn to finish it.

A space 747? Hum...:hmm:

You could just build a passenger module as an add-on to the ship. Since there are no windows in the cargo bay area. And passengers like to look outside. Just make for some in-module viewscreens and/or paint windows on the skin. Whatever. Many aircraft are convertible between passengers and freight as it is. This would be similar.

All this could be done without redoing the work that has already been accomplished. It could be done as an add-on to an add-on, right? Just plop one big-ass people module in the bay and call it a day.

Or open the bay doors.

Or open the bay doors.

 Ladies and gentlemen, due to a rise in the price of air pump components, please be aware that you will be expected to wear your space suit at all times, as the bay doors will be opened on reaching orbit.

Thank you for your co-operation!

Talking about "Passenger module" I'm thinking along the lines of a HAB module with windows, not just a row of seats. :)

Seats are unescessary mass. Just standing places with some handles.

You mean floating spaces.;)

Seriously? Even during re-entry?

I wouldnt recomend that for your knees. Apparently the human body absorbs shocks better along the front/back axis lying down than any other (brings an ironic meaning to taking it lying down ). If multiple Gees are absorbed via a squat... umm, lets just say the words crowbar & knee joint come together to describe the result

I'm allergic to feathers.

I recommend proper synthetics anyway. I am not allergic to feathers, but the keels of the feathers often left me pretty bruised, because of my rather active sleep...

I'd prefer tightly packed beautiful girls :D

I dont know. It sounds like a great idea now, but maybe not if your knee gets driven into one of them at 3 gees. Somewhat awkward way to introduce yourself...
