Gaming Elite: Dangerous

And got my Python. Now I've barely got money to cover a single rebuy, hah. :)

Two particularly stunning scenes I ran across yesterday:

I've been attacked by Imperial Clipper today (I'm using ASP Explorer)

He left me with 42% hull and 18% canopy.

Arrived at Maia. Let the hunt begin \o/

No joy yet. However I visited Maia black hole for a good charm in my search. 25km is as close as I dare to get.

At 24km I hit "Body exclusion zone".

All day no joy.

Picked up unknown artifact from 2nd crash site and jumped around Pleiades for almost 2 hours. At that point I had to dump the artifact and return to base for repairs (Cockpit canopy at 26%).

I too visited a crash site (thanks Loru for the coordinates!), where I found other CMDRs doing the same:

But, heads up for anyone heading to Obsidian Orbital in Maia: there's at least one player waiting to kill passersby.

So in the end despite playing an unhealthy amount of time I just managed to recoup the two rebuys this guy has cost me. May the probe smite him.

One question though there (maybe I can start playing again next week):

Why aren't those schoolyard bullies simply worth a lot of headhunting? What prevents others from picking on them?

I really don't want to get into combat in ED, but it sounds like a problem to simply fly in peace.

I guess they are, and in the specific case of the guy who killed me a couple of times you can find at least two posts in the subreddit where he was "taken care of".

If the "griefer" is some guy with an average ship he usually won't live long, but in this case that seemed not to be the case. In any way, an alternative to flying solo is to join the Mobius player group, which basically forbids PvP flying and is open to anyone.

You find "griefers" around starting systems, community goals, or other hot spots, like Maia at the moment.
When you're just going about your business, their pretty rare.

There are some legitimate pirates though.
Drop them some booty and hope for the best.

Yet another reason to play in offline mode? Combined with the absurdly tiny limits on number of players that can be docked on some of the stations...

My understanding is that a common griefer strategy is to simply wait around popular stations at hot spots and ram you into the station to kill you. Thus no shots were fired, and they accrued no bounty. If you ask me, that mechanism is completely broken since you can ran someone in a no-fire zone without consequence. I understand not punishing accidental ramming, but when one person is doing it continuously (or doing it to the point of killing another player) there ought to be some sort of punishment mechanism.

I just avoid hot spots when playing in open. It's unfortunate, but in any large group there will always be a certain non-zero percentage of griefers. Back before the crash sites were discovered I used to fly around Maia and meet other random explorers. It was good fun back then. Now I have to go into private groups before approaching any popular spot like that.

Up to this point (205 hours played) I had only one experience with someone deliberatelly attacking me. I still wonder if he had rebuy as it seems it was stock Vulture.

They fixed a lot of it by introducing a speed limit in stations. You can exceed the speed limit without consequences, but if you ram somebody while over the speed limit you're making yourself a target.

That'd explain some strange encounter I had. I felt a bump, my Point Defence fired few shots, I heard a hail of fire but by the time I managed to turn my ship to look what's going on, there were only debris floating in station entrance.

Could have been me mismatching some buttons on the gamepad again.
