This is spaceflight news, but I hate to start topics myself.

In short: Congress is offering NASA a slightly larger budget than requested, they agree on the amount, but the House and Senate bills disagree on how to spend it.
In my opinion and politics aside, I think the House bill is far superior. A focus on planetary science and exploration of the outer planets is exactly what I want to see. The Senate bill is just too focused on Mars. Mars is nice, but it's not 'throw all our money at this one thing' nice. And since the graphics show the *change* in budget, the House's decrease in Earth science is really an almost negligible change.

Well, now, whichever bill does pass, Opportunity and LRO are saved. :thumbup:

Both bills appear to provide funding sufficient to operate all missions already in flight, reversing the proposal in the President’s budget to shut down the Mars Opportunity rover and the Lunar Reconnaissance orbiter. (The Senate bill does not directly address the latter but does appear to provide sufficient funds for the orbiter.)

He is now in the second camp, much further to the surface than planned for this day. Rescue is progressing extremely well despite the difficulties. 12 international teams are working together to rescue the cave explorer. 200 people are involved in the rescue, including 60 people directly in and near the pit cave.

Cool. I thought they were using cables. So...radio penetrating hundreds of meters of rock. Really nice. Could be used in the mining industry too. Hell, it has a ton of applications.

Think about it like a very slow SMS service... it only achieves 13 bit per second as maximum transmission rate. But with very high reliability.

I recall seeing a video where these two (Ukrainian or Russian or whatever, it was in that geographic area) guys were arguing intensely and it looked like there was going to be a fight. Then the guy on the right raises his arms, and TWO other guys appeared out of nowhere like they were hiding behind him the entire time.

The other guy ran pretty fast. :lol:
