PLANETS!!!! HYPE!!!!

It's Official: Planets are coming this Thursday, November 12th!

why? why oh god my AMD drivers had to give me headache this weeks? I will miss the great update!

I don't think of them as planets... they are just big asteroids. The biggest 'planet' will be about the size of a small moon in our solar system I'm afraid...

After Fallout 4... sorry, too late.

The Easy Start modes for the update are pretty neat.
I just did the Earth one. Nice base with cool looking vehicles of multiple roles. Regular attacks from enemy drones and fighters. Big enemy HQ and and an outpost to visit.

Cool! That's a big-ass update, though. It may push me over my bandwidth cap for the month.

Be warned that if you want to try and take one of the pirate HQs you're going to need to be prepared to do some serious damage to it. I tried approaching one in creative, with the plan of just grinding down the turrets. Couldn't get near. The only way I could approach was walking, where I couldn't reach the turrets. If I tried to use my jetpack, the force of the bullets propelled me away at greater accelerations than some ships manage.

Be also warned that if you don't have at least 32 Gb of RAM, your system is going to be unplayablely slow. I have a 8Gb RAM system and my Physical RAM usage jammed up at 100% almost as soon as I loaded Earth Planet Easy Start. My CPU also pegged at 100% on 3 of my 4 cores. Took almost 25 seconds for any keyboard command to be registered. Walking around the base took forever...

They definitely have a LOT of optimizations to do before planets are playable.

Going back to just plain asteroids for now....

I had low framerate but it was playable for me.
8GB RAM, 2GB VRAM, 6 cores at 3.5GHz.

Canada... attempting to provide worse internet service than second world countries (bandwith caps are still a pretty common thing in 3rd world countries, though).

Also at four times the price!

OK, I can confirm, the performance isn't really the best on my notebook (i7, 16GB RAM, 1.5GB VRAM, GTX 670M). I can walk around, but its pretty sluggish when rotating the view, I doubt I will have much joy during pirate attacks with it.

Looks like I really need a new PC now.

Yes... Comcast is attempting to push a data cap of 300 Gb/mo, so not only it still exists, it's making a comeback!

The German Telekom tried the same, but the customers fought back and sued them successfully, also the nick name "Drosselkom" was pretty hard for the former monopolist.

You're not playing this on any mobile device, so... what bandwidth cap?

Data usage caps are the norm for Canadian service providers. I personally have a limit of 500 GB per month, with no option to increase this.
