Updates Blue Origin New Shepard News and Updates

First time they've streamed it live. All others have been revealed after the flight was over.

Damn ! Gonna miss it. :beathead:

Livestream is up with a small delay, and it is great - lots of close up views of the New Shepard during prelaunch processing about 6 hours earlier this morning.

One of the coming unmanned test flights will be an in-flight test of the launch escape system.

Didn't get to it till T+8 min, nice touchdown.

The final two minutes of launch preparation had been really great, they had installed a microphone on the pad, so you had been able to hear the APUs power up and change power level as the actuators are checked out. The capsule RCS test at T-10 was also nice to see. The holds happened a bit suddenly, but then, this is a test flight, its common to include holds into such flights as need arises.

I must say, I liked the short webcast generally - no weird hipsters, the star is the vehicle. The presentation was pretty minimal but did also not distract from the flight, the language of the two hosts had also been reasonable technical.

Sounds like I missed a good one, I'll have to have a word with my social-secretary.

Glad to hear the presentation is not of the "Disney meets Godzilla" style. that really gets on my nerves. Hasn't anyone told them that things go wrong at launches and when the cheering stops its awfully quiet. Best to save the cheering till the end.

Meh, the announcers still have that hipsterish voice thing going on. The male kept saying how the capsule oscillation under the drogue chutes was no big deal and it would smooth out under the main. It did smooth out, but I can imagine passengers upchucking before it did lol.

I guess Blue Origin has a different definition of T-0? I don't think the vehicle moved until T+8s or so.

Also, the booster and capsule didn't seem to really separate much, but I am thinking that's just because of the extremely steep camera angle and zoom level.

Great video. Watching that booster plummet right before engine restart is still scary and thrilling.

The thing I never get is the need for EVERYONE to join in on the terminal count, for any launch. Yay! We can all count from 10 to zero backwards, just like grade school!? I see the timer, and I'm pretty sure we'll figure out when the engines light off and the rocket leaves the pad.

I'd love for there to be a straight up technical channel with nothing but pad and rocket audio, no damned talking heads yammering. Everybody else who needs to cover the nasty rocket noise with their nasally commentary can do it somewhere else. I want to hear the whine of the turbopumps, the staccato crackle of the engine exhaust, the sonic booms, the whistle of supersonic air past an airframe. Can't we be allowed to focus and enjoy the simple things in life, please?

Liked one the announcers emphasized the boosters hovering ability, accounting for its slow descent to touchdown.

Well hey, the lack of a horrific high speed impact and explosion is a feature that distinguishes it from many other types of ground to ground missiles! Advertising!

Comparing this to the other flights, I would say the tumbling is related to the missing third drogue. It still landed pretty smooth. Can't wait to see the in-flight abort test.

Well, at least someone's gonna have to clean out the remains of lunch, not human remains.

The booster looked like it came down on a string, it was so smooth.

Was watching the replay a few times, and thought that looks familiar, but I've never been there. Then realised its Corn Ranch...I should get out more.

Unless cannibals will fly, too.

Part of the problem with the announcers is that they are really PR announcers. Not just Blue Origin and SpaceX, but also ULA and NASA.

Every NASA launch has that annoying "...aaaaand liftoff of the blah blah blah, bringing blah blah blah into the 21st Century!"

Yuck. Please just narrate the flight details and leave the PR flack to the pamphlets.

We should suggest them to hire radio sport commentators for this. They don't need to look good, they just need to know how to transport the event in spoken word. Ideally some Brazilian football commentator. "3...2...1...(+30 dB) LIFTOFF LIFTOFF LIFTOFF, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LAUNCH PERFECTLY VERTICALLY OFF THE PAD...."

Agree with the commentary: for example SpaceX's employees cheering during the first Falcon9/Dragon flights and successful landing was more than understandable, but for other flights they should stick to the "steely-eyed missile-men" approach.

Nice one :)

Hire Russians. "Launch. Everything Nominal. Nominal. Everything Nominal. Stage 1 separation nominal. Nominal" :)

I'm ok as long as they don't go with a Japanese style count-UP to MECO.
