Yes, my frustration showed up rather loudly in my original posting, as I have been banging my head against the "default" wall for months without realizing that WinXP's decompression routine was adding in something (the zip file sub directory) that I thought was proper but should never have been...
I did read the documents, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was that I didn't see that Windows was actually putting the files in a location (a "new" unnecessary directory it had created for the zip file) which I did not want (i.e. it should have put them in the actual Orbiter main...
Nope, you don't really deserve much in the way of any blame, as the problem was with Windows and the way I interpreted what it was actually doing. It makes a directory change when I unzipped the file, creating a new directory with the same name as the zip file and putting the unzipped sub...
One of my chief complaints about software is insufficient documentation. With ORBITER, it has repeatedly forced me to either come here begging for help, or just giving up on installing any add-ons and suffering like a kid outside a locked candy store when I browse this site. I have two...
I highly recommend FRAPS. Yes, it is not free, but it isn't pricey either and unlike some shareware or open source recorders, IT JUST PLAIN WORKS WITH ORBITER! It is easy to use and creates a simple AVI file that Windows will be quite happy with. Have fun making your movies!
PROBLEM SOLVED!
WOW Mark! All it took was moving the files plus downloading level 8 and Level 10 came to life! I cut the orbital altitude by half and even at 300 km, it still looks fantastic. The machine has no trouble in loading or keeping up with the software (just wish it was 3D so I...
Hi there. I have been fighting the Mars "Level 10" add-on for quite a while now and am about to give up. One unfortunate but consistent problem with many add-ons (both in Orbiter and in other share-ware simulators like Celestia) is that the *exact* procedures needed to install the add-ons...
Hi there. While I love ORBITER, occasionally, I would like to change a few things. For one, as I reenter using the stock Atlantis, the reentry plasma effects seem to not be consistently activated. At altitudes below 60 km, they often do come on (or if I am really sloppy and get way too low...
They look GREAT! The only problem is that, like the old tank, the shuttle does not cast a shadow on the tank (guess that is for the next release). Oh well, at least they look a little more like the real thing. Thanks for all the hard work to make this change.
