i just heard about what was called a particle bed reactor (wikipedia came up with nothing so i think he meant pebble bed) that could be used by spacecraft for thrust by pumping any inert gas through it and venting the plasma as thrust. leaving behind a radioactive gas cloud in the process but i...
imagine a spaceship that had an engine that produced a constant 1g of thrust using matter-energy transfer technology (for practically infinite fuel) and you burned half way to your destination, turned around, and decelerated for the other half.
what would be the mathematical formula for...
a massive 6 person argument started over this picture: http://themetapicture.com/media/funny-facebook-math-poll-question.jpg
PLEASE explain the math here
im in a current discussion with a few individuals and was wondering: would it be at all possible to turn a normal nuclear powerplant reactor into an explosive device? how would you do it?
enphasis on material usage and modification of the core itself.
thnx in advance

this though just popped into my head and im sure there is a simple explanation that i dont remember but why do planets have only one rotational axis?
i guess the best way to visualize it would be to RCS rotate left... that is how a planet rotates to my understanding. now rotate up. there is a...
Has/is anyone made/making a dropship from the battletech books? they had the ability to launch from a jumpship sitting at the azimuth of a star (with ion engines) and accelerate constantly halfway to its target planet, then it would turn around and decelerate for the other half before making a...
They want to spend millions of dollars to do something that probably wont make any difference... and yet i am not surprised http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_russia_asteroid_encounter
ok my mom just called me up and said her comp wouldnt turn on, i went out there and checked the cables and switches and everything was normal. i pulled apart the comp and started checking connections when i noticed the fan was loose. with a little wiggling it popped right off of the processor...
does anyone know how to use the exploreur atmospheric probes with other ships? was thinking i could stick them on the XR-5 maybe. if not that then can anyone look at the .dll of the exploreur ships and find out why it crashes sometimes when you show active target whle doing an EVA. or why it...
how would i go about making a ship sit up on the launch pad properly? the atlantis scenarios have it sitting up even off the ground a little bit over the pad. i want to do the same with the ocean class exploreur ship and use velcro rockets to strap insertion rockets to it.
EDIT: when i try to...
was eating at good ol' McDonalds and a thought came to me. could you measure something like rocket fuel in calories? a calorie is just the amoutn of energy it takes to heat 1 milliletre of water 1 degree celcius (i think) so couldnt u measure the energy content of anything else with calories?
for some reason lately if i add any of the XR ships with the scenario editor it keeps spamming "nose cone closed" warnings at me. if im flying it stops but as soon as i cut the engines it starts yelling at me again. anyone know why?
getting into orbit i can do. re-entry i can do. atmosphereic flight i can do... but i cant for the life of me get back to my space station. i started building one, it has a near circular orbit at 350km. my problem is that i cant ever get close to the dam thing when i try to get back into orbit...
the new avatar movie looks great. cant wait for it in december.
is it just me or does the ship at the beginning of the trailer look a lot like the DGIV?
Does anyone know of any carrier or mothership class spacecraft with a more complex control setup? i tried the exploreur vessels and it was fun and realistic with damage and repairing but it was all too simple. i guess i like to micro manage everything like the DGIV.
could someone copy the DG velcro addon with the drop tanks and JATO rockets but make it for the DGIV? or better yet, teach me how to do it so i can change it myself in the future?
