Personally I would love to go into space, but at my age I have my kids future to think of as well as (hopefully) grandchildren in the not too distance future. So I would probably, reluctantly, turn down the offer. Unless it was a week or two long trip to the moon, that would be just too tempting...

That's sort of my idea as well. There also may be no need for the "lander" to land either, it would just be along to provided some delta V and living space. The Orion / Altair stack could just station keep nearby. Or the entire stack could "land", the Altair legs touching down on the surface...

I suspect that is what the Constellation program add ons already in development will evolve into, it just may take a while.
