First discovered on January 1st, 1801, Ceres was first considered a planet for 50 years, then was down-graded to an asteroid, and then upgraded to dwarf planet status in 2006.

Ceres...easily my favorite planetesimal. Ceres was the goddess of grain, beer, and drunken frivolity.

Yay Ceres!

I recommend the amazing Universe Simulation program Celestia. If you take a peek at all of the dwarf planets within Sol you will see quite the reserves of iron and potential colonizable areas. Ceres is just one of VERY many. Some asteroids even have satellites themselves :O
PS: Spicer, you wouldn't happen to go on a forum called [the fake] would you?

Are you working yet on a Makemake addon?

Most humbly curious...

Yes I am. However if you don't want to wait, you can download my Minor Planet Database Viewer and Exporter which can automatically place any asteroid and dwarf planet into Orbiter. I'm also currently updating that program, which will include MUCH better textures, and new models for asteroids, plus various bug fixes and other options, which I hope to release soon.

Currently though, I'm just finishing up a new set of Chapman probes. My avatar is a picture of the Chapman Outer version, and I'm also making a Chapman Inner-1 with regular sized solar panels for missions to the inner planets, and a Chapman Inner-2 that has an extended array for missions into the asteroid belt. I also just released a new 90 Antiope addon.

I'm also planning to make a new Pluto addon that will come with all three moons (not just Charon), I am making an Io Orbiter that comes with a lander, and I am also making a Titan Orbiter mission that will come with three landers (or two landers and a ballon, I haven't completely decided, but leaning towards the second option). The Titan Orbiter is a really interesting one since it will use aerobraking to achieve orbit, while my Io Orbiter will simply use a large booster to brake into Io's orbit. Both orbiters will be launched on top of Delta IV Heavy rockets. However you will still need to use slingshots around Venus and 2 around Earth (just like Galileo) to get you to Jupiter. I haven't determined if the Titan Orbiter will need gravity assists (other then from Jupiter itself), but it seems unlikely).

So needless to say, I've been keeping myself busy :P
