Rant 1 thing that I truly admire about the US

Quite like the German tune:

You can never be wrong by using a popular tune of your time as base for your national anthem, even if the popular tune is composed by Haydn and named "God Save Emperor Francis".

True, but we Brits haven't got many good tunes, just listent to our National Anthem, what a durge....

Pardon? You can always take a tune or two from your past hostile take-overs!

Not a bad tune, but its Scots...this should cause troublw.

If you fancy a good old fashioned H.G.Wells type tune...

Great. I have it - that one - in my bookmarks since a long time and in many others circumstances . Not sure at that time: was in the "A clockwork orange " ? ( Pump and circumstances ).

Pomp and Circumstance:

The chorus at the Royal Albert Hall is superb and yes, after re-verifications, Land of hope and glory is in Orange mécanique and, by the fact, in my head and ears since i was seventeen or heighteen.

Elgar is a constant at the RAH proms, not surprising really!
Nice to see we have wandered off the thread...

How is Barack doing these days?

Amazing how a good tune can be ruined...

Not exactly pride-inspiring, but hey, that's how we do it

You know, if world-domination could be won by purely singing your anthems, then the US would own us all :) :

The acoustics and ambience on that one is simply amazing :)

I've been trying to find similar videos for other anthems, but apart from one of Canada's, apparently none seem to exist. European anthems seem to all come in the form of soccer- or handball -audiences singing it.
Europeans should adopt this tradition IMO.

I don't know. The russians got us pretty good with this.

That, or being played at military parades.

What tradition you ask? The one that so far only US (and Canada to some extent) seems to practice :)

You can take all the military parades in the world, and even couple them with beer-guzzling spectators if you want, but when faced with an army of these talented singers, that go straight to your heart, then there is no doubt who the victory belongs to :)

You just can't beat this with any weapon, beer or military parade. You just have to surrender :) :

You think the US and Canada are the only countries that have kids singing their national anthem? I find that very hard to believe.

This is the closest to being a similar video I could find for Australia's anthem :hmm: :
I'm guessing it's from an aussie tv-show. The whole scene appears to make a mockery out of singing your anthem though, which I actually commented on in my thread-starting post.

indiana evans (Australian National Anthem)

No offense, but the US takes the clear lead here :) :

Why is it always girls, anyways. What about boys?

And no, if in Switzerland a child was "forced" to publicly perform the national anthem, leftist childcare organisations would probably abduct it then and there "for its own good"...
