Rant 1 thing that I truly admire about the US

Do American kids really sing US anthem every morning in the school?
Probably. Even Canada does this. Hopefully our neighbours use more traditional versions than here though. I couldn't stand listening to some idiotic fusion-synth-pop quatro-lingual monstrosity that seemed to be a favourite among the admin staff in junior high. Or worse, the barbershop monks in high school. It was embarrassing to stand up and listen to. I remember going down and asking them to play this instead:

Russia has the rest of us all beat in the anthem department. They even make my own anthem better.

In Siwtzerland, we usually hear the Canadian anthem at least once a year, because Team Canada wipes everyone's asses in the Spengler-Cup

In California, we don't even say the Pledge of Allegience (sic) at school anymore. We got shafted by some agnostic lawyer who claimed the line, "One nation under God" was a violation of church-state separation.
Most kids don't even know the national anthem.

Please let us stay Europeans. It is a hard life, but it is ours.

:) I understand what you're saying. Even here in Denmark I seem very lonely with my praise of the US way in this regard. Personally I do find 'our' european way a bit more poor than the US way (I don't like soccer and I don't like beer or loud 'happy' hooligan drunks), but oh well, I'll just have to bow for the majority's lack of interest in singing. Europeans don't even say grace before dinner, which is another thing I think we should do more of. Just to be more thankful we're not starving, it doesn't have to be founded in religion but just a mere thankful thought to 'life' if nothing else :) I really do wish europeans wouldn't frown so much on such things.

Yes, but then, I know too many small gestures and rituals there, that are a much better replacement for it in my own eyes, than a prayer for a god, that just didn't prevent your mommy and daddy from putting the food on the table. ;)

Also, I am grown up in a pretty protestant world, and in that sense, I appreciate singing things myself. Even if I can't do it that good. (Gospel choirs are great - but can you image not singing Christmas songs on Christmas?)

Singing and listening to a song at the same time is a feeling of community, that can't be beaten. Even if you just sing with many thousand others, that you only want to have sexual intercourse with a girl and not get presented to her parents.

Europeans, last I heard Berlusconi was heading for the hills?

Well, evangelicals usually do. There's just a lot less evangelical people over here than in the US.

Don Silvio does not end that easily... he had survived worse.

Yes, you don't mess with the Don...I'll be back in a few months.

 He had already done this once, when his coalition fell apart. He came back better than before.

But I feel like some countries have to get bankrupt for something to change in the attitude of politicians.

Best comment I can think of...

 well, you never how these godly things may or may not work :)
I do say thank you whenever I've finished a meal though. Even if perhaps nobody listens or hear it, in case somebody does then I've said thanks.

Ahh christmas, a whole other subject that could have its own thread with videos :)
I love christmas. I spent some more time looking around on youtube, and I found 1 thing where scandinavians excel even over the US: 'Santa Lucia' celebration (2 videos below of this). This is a really magnificent event. It IS religious though, atleast in nature, even though it's emphasis is more on the singing and the event itself.

 yeah... I don't know exactly what impression you have of me, good Urwumpe, maybe something like this, hahaha: :bananadance:

Anyway, to keep it clean ;) here's the 2 Swedish Saint Lucy video's. The first one is a really beautiful song, especially when heard in the proper acoustical environment. The video doesn't really do it justice, but it's still good. The second video is the actual Saint Lucy 'anthem'. And these 2 videos seem to be specific for scandinavia, so it seems like we can beat you all on this one if not national anthems :)

And then a video of a danish music-school performing "We wish you a merry christmas" in a mall at christmas. This is typical danish, and quite nice when you're out shopping. Ofcourse groups singing christmas carols isn't unique for Denmark or europe, but is just here to showcase the local way of doing this:

And finally, to partly return to the threads subject, here's another video of Rhema Marvanne... I've seen a few more videos with her since I started this thread, and if she sang the US national anthem in the most amazing way, then this is even better. Show me a german, dane, british, aussie, or whatever, kid that has SUCH talent.

If you don't watch any of the videos I post, then atleast watch this one anyway. It is beyond amazing:

Rhema Marvanne - "Amazing Grace"

Not actual anthem but it should be one

No deal, but do you really think you can deal with real talent?

Knorkator... right... not cute at all, but a win none-the-less

As much as I love Germany, I have to say this band is so typical German :)
Not just because they sing in German (such typical german nationalist tendency... No, I'm kidding ;) ), but also their stage-acting and song-themes: it's always about bizarre nudity and leather, for some strange reason (you know GGG I'm sure ;) Only in Germany, haha).
It's cool though, and it's yours to be proud of :)
If I ever move to Germany, I want to work for John :)

Right. I guess reaching videos of Knorkator officially ends the intended cuteness of this thread
Germany does it again

The following version still is unbeaten in my opinion, not exactly because of the anthem but because how and why he played it, which is completely different to a 4 year old singing girl who doesn't really know what and why she sings (like kids in China or North Korea...:hide:)
