Hard to believe it's been so long but it was 44 years ago tomorrow that Apollo 11 made it's historic moon landing and Neil Armstrong took that "One Small Step" into the history books. Literally the whole world watched, caught up the spectacle of human beings leaving the Earth behind and visiting the surface of a far off world. Robots like the rovers on Mars and the Cassini probe are great but they don't come close to the wonder, the drama and the excitement of sending real, living humans to those places. One day, and I hope it will be within my lifetime, we are going to relive that excitement and that sense of wonder when man takes his first footsteps on the surface of Mars. What a glorious and exciting day that will be.

Edit: Oops....for some reason I was thinking today was the 20th! Tomorrow is the 44th anniversary.

Guess what, I'm currently reading Stephen Baxter's Voyage.

Great book! If you haven't already read it, check out Titan as well - if you an ignore the wacky political sub-plot, it's a hell of a good story.

Pretty depressing too. Voyage is better imo, but Titan is a good read. Just...yeah real depressing.

And the first anniversary without the Commander among us.

You'll never be forgotten brave rocket man!:salute:
