Despite a lot of miss labeled hype Obama has laid out a very exciting and realistic plan forward for the expansion of the human race into the solar system and I am happy to post that Buzz Aldrin has back that plan in a recent article.

It's always best to be in the boat that's floating.

Ya but he has been advocating things like commercial space flight and in space fuel trasfer for years as well as pointing out the folly of the "Apollo on steroids" idiocy.
Also, are you saying Buzz Aldrin only cares about being on the Bandwagon?

I always thought he was big on going back to the moon, I could be wrong.

Good article, well stated.

Aldrin is correct about the program, but "like turning a big ship around in a small space" is what worries me. I'd still like to see NASA finally return or land on another body within a few decades.

Nah, he's been bashing constellation for a while now. He's been supporting things that people like Paul Spudis and Dennis Wingo have been saying. Things like we don't need a heavy lifter. We need ISRU, in-space propulsion as it relates to space tugs and long term fuel storage and fuel transfer in space. All thing these thing I have been shouting about on nasawatch, spacereview and the like for a while as well.

In thinking about what Aldrin says, remember that his ultimate goal right now is to watch a human step on Mars before he dies. From his point of view, going to the moon would destroy his dream of seeing the first person step foot on Mars.

I think Aldrin is realistic enough to know that he will never see such a thing. Isn't it enough to take what he is saying for what it is?

Likely yes, because Aldrin was never an idiot and still has not become one. He has a pretty realistic view about the opportunities in space.

Was it Buzz Aldrin who called the Ares I-X test flight an outright fraud?

I'm not happy about NASA's budget cuts, but I am happy about the death of the "return to the moon" plan. Let's hope Obama keeps his word.

The budget isn't getting cut it's getting a $6.8 billion increase.

The budget only gets a 1 billion USD increase. The budget for Commercial orbital transport services got a 6 billion increase.

Well, if it's like his promises to close Guantanamo Bay, stop or slow down the war(s), stop torturing people, stop spying on US citizens, and stop incarcerating people without a trial, than we should be on the Moon by next Tuesday!
