Question Any musicians up in Orbit?

I can't identify the guitar in your avatar, diogom, but it looks nice:lol:

I play the guitar. I have been playing since I was 9 and amd 15 now.

I'm a bluegrass player as well as Gospel.

In fourth grade, I played the violin. In fifth grade I played the trumpet.
In sixth grade, I played the trumpet and the bassoon.

Sixth grade was really an interesting experience in orchestra. The bassoon I played was taller than I was, and I was naturally stuck on the end of the row, closest to the audience, with all the rest of the woodwinds. That meant every stinkin' concert, I knew everybody was looking at me and wondering 'what the hell is that guy playing?' . . .

In junior high school (7th and 8th grades) I experimented with trombones, tubas, flutes, clarinets and an oboe. I think the most exotic instrument I've ever had my hands on was a french horn for five minutes.

In high school, I lettered (academic accolade) in jazz, playing the drums and bass guitar.

I own a '93 Fender Squier (black with white pickguard), and a Jay Turser JT-133 hollowbody guitar (trans red), and punch both through a economy-sized Dean Markeley KV-20 practice amp.

Of course I never got within a hundred leagues of anything resembling a reputable college for the arts . . .

When in school I played the clarinet, sax and when my sister would let me - the piano.

A few years ago I started to teach myself the guitar and ended up moving to the UK. My poor guitar got a bit damaged on the way over here and I'm not sure if it is fixable - so I haven't done anything pretty much since I met Garyw!

I'd like to get back to playing the guitar - but time and money on lessons is just not there. Yes I could teach myself - but it's more fun learning with someone else!

I've played a few instruments over the years, but the main one I play is the bagpipes (hence the name Piper). I started in the 90s in my army cadet corp, eventually becoming the band's Pipe Major, and then when I aged out of cadets I continued to pipe for the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa for a few years. I don't play much these days, but I still play every once and a while.

I have been playing guitar, and singing for about 25 years, and have been in working, and touring bands, most of my life.

I've always liked their sound actually. There's a certain....sense of profound grace in just the overall tone of the instrument.

I had Piano lessons for about 5 summers, and a couple years of Trombone in High School. Didn't play at all for three years (Military), and then started teaching myself Guitar - they are a lot easier to carry around than a Piano!

Played in a few "basement bands", Punk and Metal, but got tired of the way everyone else just wanted to play covers and didn't have the balls to play original material.

Eventually I sent acoustic and sort of adopted a "modern American Folk" style, primarily because you can't really pull off Rock or Punk by yourself. I played almost exclusively original material (only played three covers at shows - Arlo Guthrie's " Coming into Los Angelese", BTO's, "Down, Down", and "I don't like Mondays" from the Boomtown Rats. Off stage, I've played other people's stuff, of course. In fact I learned guitar by learning "Stairway to Heaven" from sheet music.

About 6 years ago, I moved to be closer to my parents and there's no real music scene around here. I still play some, and record (just for my own amusement) doing the Guitars and piano live, program the drums, and do the bass on a keyboard. It's so much easier than the old "Drum Machine and a 4 track" was! I use Hydrogen for drums, Rosegarden for MIDI, and Ardour for recording. I use Stompboxes for effects, and my soundcard (Creative Audigy Platinum) provides cabinet simulation. I used to use Cubase and Guitar Tracks, but found that I could get better results faster using Linux - J.A.C.K. is fantastic and Windows just can't provide the same level of extremely low latency that a properly set up Linux system can with a properly patched kernel.
