Yes, it's real. Only 90 minutes till impact. It hits at 02:48 on October 7 UT. If you run the above scenerio file, use the arrow buttons to center Earth as it gets close.

Just followed the asteroid in Orbiter. Watching my DG SLAM into the ground at like 12km/s was pure awesomeness! I've never seen anything get from 300km to 0km that fast! :lol:
 
There are also already jokes about it around in the astronomical society. A yet unnamed astronomer suggested naming it after Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Why?

"It is small, not very bright and will have no impact. And McCain can sure remember the day, the asteroid was created."
