Hey everyone,
Recently got Shuttle Fleet & Auto FCS.
I really like its performance (except that landing was bumpy - The shuttle looked to be on a perfect approach but fell short of the runway with a bang x_x ) and I wondered if its applicable with other winged craft, i.e., A DG or XR2? I'd test, but alas, I have some errands to do, and am anxious to find out anyways. I'm impatient sometimes, shoot me =)

I usually disable FCS once I'm within visual range of the landing strip and then fly it in manually.

Anything else I've used FCS with has worked (again disbling it within range of the runway), but the ship looks like it's having some kind of seizure during re-entry (very shaky and jumpy).

I get that same thing!
Tried it with the XR2 and DGIV, both flippin out ._.
Knowing me and landing, i'd probably wait at least until things were lined up to kill afcs. That was the only problem with the shuttle landing anyhoo - It was going to slow after things had lined up, and didnt flare enough by the looks of it. Then again, it might have been me, because during the turn I had changed my camara view and FOW which made orbiter skip for about a second. I'll have to try it again another time.

As far as I know AutoFCS is designed to work only with Shuttle Fleet (there is a version also for the default Shuttle Atlantis). Also if you use it with DGIV not only it won't work but very likely you'll end up exceeding the Glider thermal limits and you'll eventually burn in the athmosphere.
Never had problems with SF myself. I also usually take over manually approaching the HAC subsonic but FCS pereforms perfect autolands (sometimes just little low on energy) and smooth touchdowns right on the spot.
It's a marvellous tool! ;-)

PS One thing I've noticed is if you engage the autospeedbrake while using FCS it will definetly bring you low on energy. Tip is not to use it in auto-mode and carefully monitor your lateral and vertical path on GPCMFD's adjusting your speedbrake manually as necessary.

If anybody has AUTOFCS working with the XR class vessels please post and tell us how you did it.

I believe since the flight models of the XR vessels are different from the ones used for AutoFCS, it wont be possible to make it work.

You could if you tweak the code, but that means C++ programming... Good luck.

Several versions of AFCS have been carried out (by mattnw? marg777?...marg777 i think) since the first one - 3 or 4 - and I believe to remember that they were, in the beginning, dedicated to the standard DG as to the standard Atlantis ( in fact, in the beginning : a question of trajectory in the txt or config file...).

The subject have been a long time discussed on the old forum.

Here, for example but in many of others topics ( addons support and bug, and addons )
http://orbit.m6.net/Forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=7781

Are these first versions still available?

I probably have them all, and many topics related to, but I did not make tests any more for a long time.
