Project AV-88 Jet/Fan Vtol

Well, the starfighter fell out of the sky anyways, so I guess it didn't matter if the pylons didn't hold that long

Well, it did last longer eventually than the fighters meant to replace it in terms of MTBF...

The main problem was that those stupid Germans had to use the Starfighter for something that the Starfighter was never designed for.

To look at it, I would think even a layman would know that the Starfighter was made to go really fast. Yank and bank maybe not so much.

I wonder if we could use the AV-88 with BombMFD to have competitions as to who could drop a UCGO box of emergency supplies to a group stranded in the middle of nowhere?

Bomb MFD works already with it but you have to be really carefull - I just managed to destroy CSSC crane along with myself. Dropping bombs from 60 meters at 40 m/s is dangerous suicidal.

UCGO box is bit to large to fit on pylon but dropable main cargo system is also in works. Feature was planned almost from begining and proper button is already in VC:

Hey man! I need that crane for later

I was thinking of dropping cargo out the back C-130 style. Not enough room for a loadmaster to kick the pallet out, but if the crate is ejected just clear of the door/ramp and the cargo has a 'chute deployment, that it'd be a cool way to get relief supplies somewhere in a jiffy.

Well - that's exactly what is planned - open the rear door and kick UCGO box out.

YOu do realize there is an option to dial back the blast radius? The stock setting is 250 meters, which is why you got hit. I usually run it at about 25... just based off the size of the bomb, and the fact that I'm often laying down a string of them at low level.

Well - that was just quick test. There are more pressing things at the moment like proper jet/hover engine thrust equations etc.

And there's the cargo system in action. Still lots of work to do :coffee:

Now you just need to drop an inflatable raft and a few MREs for the cast-away crew in the middle of the ocean...

Some progress on weapon system:

Managed to set up VS2013 and compile file. Now I can implement proper aerodynamics while woo will be focusing on other features.

And some more news
- tweaks to aerodynamics and engines (need some more work but that will be done in beta)
- strobes and navlights added

Apart from it many more things are partially implemented and Woo is slowly stiching things together

Most of animations are ready. Tuning aerodynamics and engines will take some time but I'll be focusing on it so it shouldn't take much time especially that vessel is subsonic only and I don't have to worry about hypersonic properties.

If you want to be funny, you could add features like ground effect or vortex ring state.

In your case, with the three vertical rotors, VRS could be really interesting to try - because in theory, your smaller rotor in the aft could enter VRS sooner than the main rotors, when the player pitches down too fast during a descent, and be completely useless suddenly... of course, if you are already in a VRS of the main rotors, you pitch down quickly to get out of it and...oops.

Damn, a RC version of it could be cool...
