Being christmass in thought the next version of orbiter would be out. Never mind :(

The next version of Orbiter will probably be out next year.

Christmas wasn't tuesday this year, was it?:P

Nope, wasn't Tuesday this year. ;)

I think we orbinauts got a cool present in the XR-2. :hotcool:

Aren't the beta's enough?

What is so missing from the current version that you need the next one?

Where is one able to download the betas?

I don't understand why people feel entitled to receive the new version...

Well, still one Tuesday left in this year, so the hope is still not dead yet.

Now, what's so bad about Orbiter 2006?
Who's been to Setebos, raise your digital hands.

Is there an inside joke with the "Tuesday" thing? Has Orbiter had a habit of being released on Tuesdays?

No, but tuesday is the final deadline for the next release. It might be earlier, but it'll definitely be done by (a) tuesday.

Hail the Probe and Probe shall giveth thee thine knowledge.

In All seriousness
This has already become the greatest/longest timespan between official releases in the history of Orbiter's existance.
Given this great length of time, are we all to assume that when the new version is officially launched, that is it going to be pretty damn spectacular in 'every' way (not just eyecandy), when compared to the current version?

Or is this extended development time actually due to the ever increasing complexities in the splitting of the graphics & physics engines, & the implimentation of maintaining quality control for the various graphics engines in the future.

Just curious

I think it is the latter, though there are some major changes to other things as well as the phys/graph. Also the Lvl 14 textures at KSC and other interesting places.

There doesn't seem to be a major difference between 2006 and the latest betas. Most of the work has gone into splitting out the graphics and the scripting interface. I don't think that the DX9 rendering client is anywhere near completion though.

Every time someone asks (or worse, complains) about when the next version will come out, the release gets pushed back a week.

I really, really don't understand why people feel entitled to receive new releases on any given schedule.

By that line of reasoning, the release date should be 12/25/2012 (a Tuesday). I mainly would like it because the inclusion of Lua scripting will lower the entry barrier for addon creation (meaning I'll be able to make cool stuff!).

Can't be. That's 4 days after the apocalyse.

Oh my gosh! We've discovered Dr. Schweiger's secret plan to never release the next version! Set the release date to be after the end of the world!

I love this thread... Good ol' Tuesday...

HAIL PROBE!!!
