I promised myself I would not jump into the forums until I had been in the community at least a week, but I can't help myself.
This stuff is just too cool!
I'm guessing this has already been talked about - if so, please point me at the conference table. I'm going to kind of stumble around here a bit, so bear with me.
Is anybody looking into how we can provide some kind of collective mission/secnario development and tracking? (I know about the VSAs, this is different. sort of.) What I mean is something that provides specific missions and objectives for some grander project and then provides ways for folks to do them and have them documented as having been completed. In the simplest terms, we're talking about a basic PIREP (AREP) system. A more ambitious implementation would be a server that can actually monitor what folks are doing, enter their info into a database and present ACARS type status, project progress, member stats and so forth. Something like this would use a client doohickey similar to FSEconomy, for example.
But rather than just a collection of random missions, I'm thinking more in terms of a collective project. Let me try an example.
Project: Build a space station.
I have no idea how to do any of this, so people much smarter than me would have to actually create the server site and such. But I could probably host it.
Any thoughts? Chuckles? Do we already have this?

Project: Build a space station.
- The project site would list the missions and provide for assignments (signups).
- Once an vnaught signs up, they then go perform the mission while the client reports ship status, mission metrics or whatever is necessary to be useful and fun as a mission tracking device.
- Once the vnaught completes the mission parms, the client sends up a report and Bob, the uber Vnaught gets a blurb next to his vnaught listing: "Bob just hauled trash from the recently installed background radiation monitoring module, clearing the way for Mission 11-b which will bring the first occupants to the module for a 6 month tour."
- Some missions could be "whenever" types while others are dependent on each other. i.e. Can't haul trash from a module until it's been installed.
- As missions are completed, a single scenario file is updated that vnaughts can download and install in their local environment. For example, if a module is added, the the scenario is updated to include a space station with the new module so everyone can see their handywork. I dunno, this is kind of clumsy, but again, trying to work with what we have and reasonably "easy" outside interfacing.
I have no idea how to do any of this, so people much smarter than me would have to actually create the server site and such. But I could probably host it.
