So I was thinking today about how much money all the damages I've caused in orbiter would cost. Sine I started orbiter at age 10, this shall be interesting. I'm pretty sure I've passed the world GDP by now. I've destroyed well over 100 shuttles. My favorite method to destroy those has been to jettison the SRBs just after liftoff, and setting the camera to them, then watching them go over 1000 km. It's even more fun on the shuttle fleet, because when I crash the sound says "Wheel stop, welcome back." XD

I've also wiped out my fair shares of DGIVs and UMMUs. Today, I think I had a little too much fun with the stock DG. I was ~20,000 km above mars, and decided to approach it directly at ~400 km/sec. As I saw it approach in the window, in real time, the next thing I knew I was reentering, then bounced off the surface into solar orbit.

I've also destroyed quite a few early NASA rockets, just to play with abort buttons :P

How much money would you have wasted?

It reminds me when I was 10 also and that I was playing the early SimCity. My mother was proud that I was playing a useful video games for one time... until I got bored and started putting fire on the city and putting monsters and tornados

I've done so many aborts from NASSP Apollo add-ons to test everything out and get a hang of the very complex control systems I dread to think how much space junk I've left in LEO

I guess I wasn't too expensive. two burnt up XR5, and some 6 to 10 vessels of various kind sank into the ocean. I'm a terrible pilot in earths atmosphere, I never managed to hit the runway...

I Never lost any ships on moon or mars, though. Never destroyed any on purpose either.

It would be an interesting addition to the game. Give the user a crash report generated from the components lost during different system failures, up to the total cost of the ship? Could even calculate the other factors of a ships loss (replacement time, environmental cleanup costs, etc etc).

But then again, I am a complete nerd for stats in any game ^^

I cant count the number of DG's and DGIV's I burned to nothing while learning the finer bits of reentry. I am sure the good digital people of Florida have round the clock clean up crews running from the havoc I caused. Never destroyed a shuttle, but I have left a few dozen in orbit.

I must confess a lot of "too long" reentries that left me no other choices than to ditch in the Atlantic Ocean, 200km or more east of Cape Canaveral. Besides, I've worked a lot my belly landings with the DGIV

Had heavy losses when I learned how to fly the Soyuz. Lots of capsules stranded in orbit with no fuel left. The good thing is that I wasn't using UMMUFA at this time, so they could always be renamed "Cosmos XYZ"

Else I'm rather responsible with virtual stuff I guess ;)

Edit : oh and there was that rather recent epic one, too : Virtual STS-131 stranded into orbit

Are those real figures or did you make them up?

A bit of both. I did a smidgen of research into the value of the real vessels.

You guys really keep track of your disasters on a txt file or something like that ? Interesting idea to make stats :)

I completely understand wrecked mouses when playing Diablo, but Orbiter?

what did you do? NASSP speed-run?

lets see...

20 somthing destroyed DGIV €10m each: €200m
100 damaged DGIV €4m repairs: €40m

1 destroyed XR1, €10m each, €10m

20 destroyed XR2 €20m each: €400m
300 damaged XR2 €10m repairs: €3b

Ok, i allways used abort buttons on all my rockets and allways ejected with DGIV and all that fun stuff and some other crashes so let me calculate...

1,569.8 Trillion in expenses.

Especially after i crashed the whale pod into earth...
