Hello, I'm Kaito (and I'm new)

All of these Pertain to the DG-S

I have a couple of questions:
1: I do not know metric. Is there an easy way to translate the metric units into english units?
2: I'm up in the atmosphere, and in orbit for about half an orbit (then i fall back down). I turned off the AF, but even when I press / and ctrl+/, the RCS doesn't turn on. Any ideas?
3: I want to turn on the scram jets, but i need to be going mach 3 and be at (i think) 10,000M. How can i tell when i'm going Mach 3 from the DG-S HUD?

If these could be answered, that would be great.

1. No there's not
2. On the upper right corner of the main panel you need to select the RCS rotary knob with your mouse. Then / will toggle the 2 modes.
3. You can't. You need to select the surface MFD and it's right below the ADI.

Oh, i need to click it, then press /?
Thank you

I've built an MFD a while back, it's called HUDdataMFD and you can get it from orbithangar: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3349"]HUDdataMFD v1.2[/ame] . Basically it prints some info on the screen, you have the option to select what data to be displayed. I've made some transformations from m/s to Km/h, MPH, meters in feet, etc so you could use it. It also prints the mach # you are at and the dynamic pressure right on the screen when you need it.

Awesome, thank you.
Where do I unzip it (sorry)

in your main orbiter file (I think)

<two cents>
If you are an Orbiter beginner, I wouldn't worry too much about conversion starting out. The majority of the tutorials that are out there are written based on the metric system, so if you follow them closely, you just need to use the numbers they reference because they match up with what you will see in Orbiter. I would advise focusing more on understanding the concepts of spaceflight and I think you will be ok.

Conversion in Orbiter I think would only be relevant if you were trying to fly a mission that coincided with a real-world event, and the info you had was in standard format only.

Thank you guys for your input. I guess you're right n122vu, I'll just stick with metric for now.

I hate being the n00b on the forums (1: Im not used to it 2: I hate asking stupid questions >.<)

Thank you guys for your help. I might be back with more questions

The files named "HUDdataMFD.cfg" and "HUDdataMFD.dll" should be in the orbitersim Modules->Plugin folder. Read the "HUDdataMFD.txt", I haven't created the folder structure in the .zip file so you have to copy them manually, sorry.

Also, you should remember that the units are completely irrelevant for you. What does it bring you, to measure the altitude in feet, when it is measured absolute and not as pressure altitude like in an aircraft? Orbiter is not flight simulator, and you should better not assume it is simpler when coming from a flight simulator. It is not. A deltaglider can glide, but it is no plane. A landing with a Deltaglider would be called a controlled crash in a flight simulator.

Also, SI units are simpler to use... you have less conversion factors.

Hi Kaito,

Since no one else has extended you a warm welcome I will be the first to do so...

:welcome:

Feel free to ask your questions, Orbiter is very complex and hard to learn at first, but once you do learn it, it really makes senses, is alot of fun, and the most rewarding sim I've ever played. Check out the links below for more goodies and have fun! :)
