(Thanks in advance for any help.)

I did a clean install of Orbiter and validated that all the correct sub-directories and files are in their proper places as per the instructions for installation on the installation instructions page.

Immediately after launch, I get the "orbiter.exe has encountered an error..." message. Checking Orbiter.log shows this:

**** Orbiter.log

The issue seems to be with your joystick. I suggest updating your driver software. From what the error message says prior to the shutdown, the program can't understand input from the joystick.

First and foremost, change your graphics device to "Direct3D T&L HAL (Radeon X1300/X1550 Series)".

For your immediate problem, it seems you have a joystick device selected which does not really exist. Make sure you have no joystick selected in the orbiter launchpad.

I'm getting the same warning in the log as the OP, and I do have my joystick set to disabled (this is just a notebook and I use the keys). It's just with the MSC V2-Bumper add on that I am having this problem; the standard Delta Glider, Project Mercury, and what I've tried of Project Apollo are fine.
