Hello,

I am a long time Orbiter user. Never been on the forums before. I recently reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on my computer. I also have installed orbiter 2010. In the past I have used the D3D client without issue. I am having an issue getting the graphics client to start. It appears in my modules tab checked on, but the video tab does not show. I have attached my Orbiter.log file. I have up to date graphics drivers and have installed the directx runtimes from 2010. I have .NET framework 4.5 and C++ 2010 redist installed both 32 and 64 bit. I am not sure why I am experiencing this failure. I have tried to redownload Orbiter to see if it was a configuration problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

From the log, I would say that the D3D9Client.dll is not OK somehow.
Please try to re-download it (maybe it was just a corrupt download)

I tried redownloading both orbiter and the D3Dx9 client. Still have the same issue. I installed both on my windows 10 laptop with no problem and with no additional installs needed. Orbiter works with Windows 10. Just still can't figure out the issue with my Windows 7 install. Any Ideas?

Hmmmm.
My next try would be in the direction of UAC (User Account Control): Have you tried installing it on your desktop?
But since it works on your Windows 10 (wich should have UAC, as well) that might not be the problem.
Any (nasty) virus-scanner, that prevents Orbiter from fully deploying? Maybe a log or quarantine folder tells you something...
Have you tried the setup exe? (The one that is in the root folder before first start. The one that checks the needed runtime-libs are available...Sized 396.288 Bytes )?

ISSUE SOLVED

The directx9 installer does not overwrite previously installed files. The issue was a corrupted d3dx9 file somewhere.

Thus, when the install package is run it will not correct this issue.

Here are the steps to correct this particular issue

1. Delete all d3dx9_ files from C:\Windows\System32 or wherever your windows folder is located.

2. If you have 64 bit windows also delete the d3dx9_ file from C:\Windows\sysWOW64 or wherever your windows folder is located.

3. Re-run the directx9 redist package. The files will now be replaced with correct versions.

4. Restart orbiter with Directx9 client and check if video is active.
