In the base Orbiter installation there's a Delta-Glider/Cape Canaveral scenario. This scenario has you sitting on what appears to be a VTOL pad. It all seems very straightforward, but as far as I can determine, the DG is incapable of VTOL with the hover engines.

The runways at KSC seem like a very long taxi away.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help. . .

Open the scenario editor and reduce the fuel in the tanks.

You could also uncheck the "Complex flight model" box in the parameters tab to use the higher-power DG engines.

Yeah: fully loaded, the default deltaglider is to heavy for vertical takeoff.

Thanks for your help. That explains a few things.

I did think about reducing the fuel, but that made it seem that the scenario was broken as is. I didn't think about changing the flight model.

I think because the DG is landed on a pad, even if the scenario specified lower fuel it would get automatically refueled when the scenario started.
