How can I get the Shuttle Launch Pad to look like this in SF v4.8?

I think that comes with [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3737"]Thorton's ISS[/ame], if I recall correctly. I may be wrong.

Thanks, it sort of worked. Apparently you only get that launch pad in Thorton's ISS scenarios. If you launch SF 4.8 scenarios you get the lego block launch pad.

Is there a edit that can be done to get Thorton's launch pad to show in other addons in orbiter 2010, like SF 4.8?

Change the system in the Scenario file. SF's default scenarios use its own Sol. make a copy of one of them, and change it to what ever solar system Thorton's scenarios are using.

I for one created my own system that I made all the changes too, includuing adding Slats LC-39, adding three more pads to LC-39, deleting certain bases, adding others, deleting the default bases on the Moon and Mars. That way the default one is still there, but for my purposes, they disappear.

That way you can create your own Cape Canaveral, you can change the name, delete the default, ugly as sin, LC-39B, and add in what ever high end launch pads you want, and it wont mess with the default scenarios. Just call it Sol-Mine or something like that, and change the system in the scenario from Sol, or in SFs case Sol-STS to Sol-Mine and you should be good to go.

That is not correct; the fleet by default uses the default SOL system. None of my add-ons have ever used a system named Sol-STS (other add-ons may have, but not mine). Please, if you are going to give advice concerning my add-ons, give correct advice.

Additionally, it isn't the system that is referenced, you need to first edit out the default LC39B from the Canaveral.cfg, then add the launch pad facilities into the scenario of your choice. Compare a scenario from Thorton's scenarios to a default shuttle fleet or even default Atlantis scenario and you will see the difference. If you only change the system from the default Sol to the system used in the Thorton scenarios, without adding the launch pads to the scenario file, you might be disappointed.

Thank you for the advice I will try it soon.

Wait, no more shuttle fleet?! I was just getting into realistic spacecraft too! Could we get some sort of an explanation?

It's like the shuttle is being retired all over again.

SSU is a frame serial killer!!!!!! And David413 should explain, at least, WHY?!

It is his perrogative to offer an explanation as to why Shuttle Fleet is no more. But I admit it would be nice to have one.

SSU seems to play well in D3D9, which would certainly help with the frame rate.

Yeah, but it's only his prerogative in the sense that you can quit your job, ignore your friends, and skip town. No one can stop you but it isn't very nice. I'm also not super happy with the fact that he removed the download from Orbit Hanger. Once you release something into the public domain, I think it should stay there (albeit with plenty of appropriate "unsupported" warnings). Open sourcing would also be nice but I certainly wouldn't fault him for choosing not to. Either way I appreciated the work he and all the addon developers do for Orbit, I'm just disappointed such a beautiful addon had to end this way.

Does anyone have a mirror? I don't have Shuttle Fleet on my current installation and I'm afraid this may be my last chance to get it.

Never mind trying to make it work, look here... http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showpost.php?p=340040&postcount=1947 :WTF:

Does that mean that he is mad about the suggestion that GPCMFD could be used for SSU? I can't tell if his post is sarcastic (best wishes...?)

I don't want to speculate too much, but he did seem to be a little perturbed in "suggestion" type threads where people wanted better textures, particle streams, launch pads, etc. for Shuttle Fleet. Perhaps he took this personally?

I am afraid that this action of his indicates that he didn't feel people were grateful for his hard work. I downloaded Shuttle Fleet in time but haven't had much of a chance to use it. But, it appears to be an outstanding mod that other developers have acknowledged by making it a requirement for other add-ons. I wish now that I would have said thank you.

At any rate, as I suspect that most people that wanted this already have it. I am afraid that those who will be hurt most by its absence will be newcomers who had nothing to do with whatever is the issue.

As I remember, David pulled the fleet a number of years ago (the old M6 forum was the main meeting hall at the time so you won't find reference to it here).

Don't remember an explaination then either, but he did bring it back (again, IIRC, completely revamped) several months later.

Hopefully we haven't seen the last of him. He's an extremely talented asset to the community.

Yeah,I will surely miss Shuttlefleet, and I am truely grateful for all his work.even if he did cut it short,Oh well enjoy it, if you have it.

I just hope that he didn't take it off because somebody around here pissed him off. I've personally never had any problems with the fleet and I was actually looking forward to the ability to launch the IUS.

Oh well:shrug:

I certainly hope not either.

Unfortunately, with all of David's addons taken down from OH, it does kind of render the lightning towers N Molson, and the new pads I was working on a moot point.

NO, I think that there are plenty of people in the orb community that still have a copy of shuttlefleet, and you contributions would be welcomed.

I would think a butt-kicken' launch pad for even the stock shuttle (or other large rocket) would still be a welcome addition on the 'Hangar.

I do echo the lament of Shuttle Fleet. David really put a lot of work into it, both the craft and the manuals. Sad to see it pulled.
