...A asorted selection of impressions at the target range...
This sim looks pretty damn gorgeous!
It's a pity it doesn't run on my archaic pc (then, I'd need plenty of free time, which is another matter...).

We'll have the server open tonight, same name.
TeamSpeak server is available at 95.244.117.111 if anyone's interested! :)
DCS server password is a very original 12345.

I have to pass... caught a bad cold today.

We too! Join us in coughing together! :)

Ok, the updater was faster than expected. Looks like it showed the wrong file size.
I should be there in ~20 mins.

Only shot I got today, after takeoff. Fabri and Richy approaching the red base (Sukhumi?), firing a missile. I'm flying very low as I expect to get shot down within seconds:

Later, I saw a black dot in the distance, approached it, managed to get the AIM-9s and cannons to work, and took it down. Nice firework, sorry Fabri .

Hehe, we were turning away after some of the remaining short range SAMs started firing at us. Then I turn back and see...an A-10. The rest is history.

I saw you flying low on my Shkval. Then I was able to launch an A-A missile in your direction, but didn't seem to have worked. ^^
Later on, I was too confident, that my anti-radar missiles will take out the site before their missiles hit. They hit first. :P

I'll open a server tonight at about 1900 UTC for flight training and weapons practice.
Same name, same mission. :)

Good chance that I will be around.

FYI the link in the first post is not valid anymore.

A couple of pics of yesterday: now nothing will escame my ever-watchful eye! :P

Yes, it's...ergonomically challenged, but if you have a monitor to spare...

Was a nice round again, I am really sorry, that I have missed most of the fun by arriving late.

At least my landing was this time almost good, except that my chair rolled away and made braking and steering hard

Yeah, it was a cool round. At times the server was quite crowded. :D

The most intense moment was, when I was behind Sammy, prevent him attacking our SAM sites. And I had only 2 Mavericks and a signle Sidewinder left. I think I hit you with the Mav first (shortly after you pulled up and turned around). I didn't expect the Mavs be so reliable in A-A mode. ^^
The setting of the mission was "Fog of War" and with the AWACs it helps you imensely getting a picture of the situation, and where bandits are.

I'm divided about the mission time. It start at 1700, and when its geting dark quick. I'm not sure, if I should adjust the time to get more from daylight. But if its getting dark it reminds you it's getting late. ;)

Yeah, I just did a single player A-A practise here... really need to learn more about the A-A mode of the TGP.

Was a good setting and I think even the first time I called AWACS in DCS. I had seen on the map before take-off, that somebody is flying a red A-10C in direction of my mission, so I called it for keeping me informed.

But neither TGP nor my eyes had been helpful finding the bandit, despite knowing where he was, thanks to AWACS.

I think AWACS should be kept.

The problem is: A-10 flys day and night. It only matters if I take off with H mavericks, because they don't work at night. I wouldn't even complain about starting at sunrise.

What I would suggest as improvements:

  • Keep the AWACS!
  • Have some F-15 fly air cover and escort for AWACS and tanker. Maybe two F-15 slots for players.
  • A bit less side wind - with more modest wind speeds, I have no problems staying on the center line during landing, no landing gear damage.
  • Less wind would also make dropping bombs easier, Mk-86 AIR would be a no-go on the server right now.
  • More distance for climbing in the A-10C, the route to "INGRESS" had been too steep, especially if you carry heavy payload.
  • Maybe a mix between BAI and CAS mission zones. I would prefer a more real CAS situation (troops in combat), including some initial points 20 NM away from the combat.
    • Don't know your CPU/memory limits there. The biggest I had simulated here had been one ACR (historic) against a full MR division. Which can keep you busy for a few sorties, if you don't want to see the ACR wiped away instantly.
    • The big plains north of the Kaukasus mountains are better suited for such big action
    • For smaller scale CAS, you could make an "uprising" situation, with small groups of hostiles over a larger number of valleys over running positions and threatening logistic routes.
    • I you want me to come up with a multiplayer suitable mission, just say so, I love plotting missions
  • Just one airport for take-off and landing, maybe a FAB for the helicopters closer to the target.
  • Maybe no A-10s for the red team. It feels wrong. But that makes it unbalanced and I know why you had them in first place.
  • For the briefing texts: Please include AM or FM for the frequencies (for clarity) UHF frequencies for wingmen and some allies, and the JTIDS network information to share data. I usually also write brief airport information into the briefing text for faster access during the ramp start.

I can do some mission editing here, but testing the mission on my own computer as server would be suboptimal, since I have the worst ping times of you all (slow ping internet + WLAN, thats why I am usually around 90 ms).

Thanks for the feedback!
I think a add some F-15 and Mig29 slots resp. and I will decrease the wind (say to the half of it).
But I don't think I'm capable of converting the mission it to a full scale CAS scenario. It is still only a target range. I also keep the spawn as it is, for inpatient players, and to have the the choppers start on the same airfield. Keeps action going on.

But I'll add some more info to the briefing, like frequency bands (actually, there are specific bands defined, so an AM frequency cant be used as FM frequency. Although it's possible in the editor to do so, I will clarify the situation.), and I'll add some aerodrome information (I got some nice ground and visual approach charts, this helps a lot of course ;)).
Could you give me an example, what you'd expect as "JTIDS network information" and how, if, I should configure this in the editor?

If you like, you can of course create your own CAS mission (or convert or extend an existing one). I can still host it for the sake of ping times. :)

In the A-10C, in the TAD, you can configure the network. If you don't want to have dozens of A-10C players filling the map with their SPIs, you can split them into smaller networks by giving them different IDs.

I think we had all the same network and unit ID in the TAD, resulting in no JTIDS available at all.

OK, so I ask: Who else wants to do a CAS scenario as MP session? Any requests how it should be like?

I'm all for it, CAS is the role where we can use a large number of the flyable aircraft (A-10 all variants, Su-25 all variants, all choppers).

I'd love some A-10As,
more than a few dozen units fighting each other would propably kill my CPU with the A-10C.
I'll play around with the editor as well to see what my system can handle.
Setting weather to clear would improve performance as well, clouds seem to be some real killers.

Good that he didn't turn into my direction...

Screen_140222_215800.jpg

I didn't expect any other planes in the mission. After takeoff in the red A-10 I was scared by engine noises, with the typical feeling that my flight is going end violently in a few seconds. Then I saw this nice Il-76 on final.

Screen_140222_220834.jpg

I don't know what hit me first, but this doesn't look like a typical AIM-9 damage. Poor plane. But I made it out :).

Screen_140222_221434.jpg

Urwumpe takeoff.

Somehow I was unable to fly a KA-50, it just spawned and flew as an AI pilot named Sammy. Which was propably better, as helicopter hate me and crash when I fly them .
