Gaming Dwarf Fortress discussion

Alright then, I'd like to be a mason. I figure I'll probably keep a separate dwarf journal as well, but I suppose I can pretend that my mason rules the fort for one year. In other words, I'll simply keep a dwarf journal whose writer will run the fortress as well, so no need for two separate ones.
 
I would be happy to get some combat reports back for my journal, since, as I see it, such a journal seems to get mandatory for taking part and I am scheduled to take part... but I hope my turn is in November, maybe I already have a new computer until then. :lol:

(And I already have an idea in which style I will write my journal... P'Terry is really an inspiration in my life.)
 
Constructed my first atomsmasher just now, to dispose of the unwanted troll fur socks and all the other slag that comes off the goblinite industry. Man, wish I'd started doing this sooner. Saves a tonne on bins.
 
It has pulled me back in....
Had my first vampire of the fortress. I convicted someone with certainty. He had *every* marking of a vampire. He was only sentenced to prison, so I attempted to drown him until I both realized that you can't drown a vampire, and failed to flood him anyways. Well, his sentence is over halfway over, but I have him encased in walls.
But get this. A new guy got elected mayor randomly. And I checked him out. And *he* has all the markings of a vampire... Woops. I was so confused that I cheated a bit by looking at Dwarf Therapist. Yep, this mayor is a vampire. And the prisoner is not... And it has been a long time since a death. It's only a matter of time until this guy, who I now de-elected, kills. And it won't be until then that I can have him handled through the justice system. Because I convicted the wrong guy for 201 days... (at least he wasn't hammered)

I'm really not sure what's going on. The one that's 'not a vampire' must be... they've never eaten or drank anything, and still have all the signs. But, Dwarf Therapist says they are just a normal dwarf.
Edit: DFHack (yay cheating) says they're both vampires... so uh, I guess, the prisoner just didn't mind using his real name?
Edit: I should have noticed the mayor guy is a new arrival. I didn't even notice I had migrants this year. So, he's not responsible for the first crime. The first guy was correctly imprisoned. And this guy just hasn't had time to kill yet.

After two years since the last release, Dwarf Fortress is about to be updated in early July.
I'm more excited about this than anything at E3! :lol:

Yeah, following it up to release for a while now. I am very, very interested in the new adventurer mode.
 
At the dawn of the sixth year, the fortress has succumbed to a goblin invasion that arrived shortly after surviving a first.
Getting a friend into Dwarf Fortress this weekend. After already getting him addicted to FTL. :lol:
 
I think this is the first time I've ever had metal ore. :lol:
I guess I normally embark terribly?
But this fortress is overflowing with iron. So my military is kitted out in iron weaponry and armor. Also, I have a decent military for once!
A soldier stumbled across a troll in a cavern. I was afraid my military might end up decimated. Nope. This one soldier takes down the troll in an instant. Mercilessly.

Edit: And someone shortly after led a cave crocodile into the fortress where it killed two dwarves and injured the captain of the guard.
Edit: And a giant toad bit off someone's hand. Okay, cavern privileges revoked.

My militia is way more leet than I thought. I guess I'm not so terrible at DF anymore.
Invasion of around 100 units (goblins, a few on giant olms, and some trolls). Slaughtered them with no losses or injuries on my side. Only the olm-riding hammergoblins survived on their side because they never approached the fortress.
Also, in recent months my militia has been naming their weapons and shields.

My most experienced militia captain is 44 levels above Legendary in Fighting.

Getting back into a !!strange mood!! lately, which is wonderfully refreshing. Birdland, the Land of Birds is progressing nicely, with the duck breeding facility already starting to churn out ducklings. Hopefully, before too long, there will be birds everywhere.

I am still messing with bugs in the latest version, but at least, the new features and changes really make a lot of fun. :lol:

Haven't really delved into those yet, as it's a brand new fortress, and I've been away for quite some time. Should put some new interest into the same-old game.
 
I still haven't gone into the 2014 releases yet. Tarn is dishing out bug fixes like crazy, pretty much daily.
I also expect the wiki to take a month or two to get certain details right. Technically, it would be faster if more of us were willing to endure the bugs and misinformation though (AND REPORT/EDIT). :P

Finally finding some time to spend a bit with the new adventure mode features. While I like what I see, the interface only seems to get worse with every added feature... sigh.

Still, there's even more opportunity for epic hilarity with the new dynamics. I came to a hamlet and wanted to brag about the kobold camp I had just taken out, instead my character proudly proclaims "I have slayed a honey badger in the dunes of stalking!". The crossbowman, who I wanted to impress with my story to get him to join me, turns to the fishcleaner and says (in what I can only imagine to be a voice dripping with sarcasm): "It is terrifying!"

It is indeed! :lol:
