I've been using orbiter for quite a few years now on and off. I am able to modify scn files fairly easily but beyond that, my abilities with orbiter add ons is very limited.

I've spent most of my time doing space shuttle related activities. Putting satellites in orbiter, space telescopes, and my biggest achievement, building a space station. Essentially I am running a world where the shuttle is NOT retired and is used for the exploration of the moon.

Basically what I want to do is use the space shuttle to launch parts into LEO and then use a Earth/Moon transfer vehicle to move them from the earth to the moon.

This vehicle would then have enough thrust to move the additional components that are launched into orbit to the moon where a moon space station will be built and ultimately serve as an outpost around the moon. Here surface operations can be launched.

I've brain stormed a few ideas on MSpaint which are VERY rough. Like I said, I have no experience working with orbiter addon programs. The design is more or less a space shuttle without the fins and with an open payload bay. It is not designed to be launched on its own or ever enter earth's atmosphere. Ideally, it would be put into orbit by the space shuttle and would be "deployed" in orbit. The payload area would be large enough to fit anything that could be launched by the space shuttle.

Here are the images I created. Like I said, VERY basic. I am not sure if such an add on is in existant or if someone can make this. I feel embaressed posting such crappy MSpaint images but I realy dont have any other way to convey my ideas.

Edit: I havent posted here in a while yet my account is still active. Somehow I lost my post count. This shows up as my "first" but Ive posted before.

Edit again: Fuel i realize is a major limiting factor. Although I drew in "apparent fuel tanks" for this one I am allowing fuel quantity to be fudged a bit as it is not really the primary concern.

What clickypens said.

Sooner or later I plan on updating the Lunar Transfer Vessel in that link, but for now it works well enough. It has a nuclear thermal rocket drive, but it's not magic, so you still have to use your brain to move stuff to the moon without running out of propellant.
