Actually, I'd meant to write "DOS ist" instead of "DOS is" (and have now edited my post to correct it).

If I may correct something here.:lol:

"Witz" is masculine, "der Witz". And the masculine form of "blöd" would be "blöder", "blöde" is the feminine one which you would use for "blöde Kuh" for example.

But that's the gender of words and that's confusing as hell anyway.:tiphat:

Actually, I think what I'm more getting mixed up is the difference between definite and indefinite forms (der blöde vs. ein blöder), and the fact that to American ears "-e" and "-er" in German sound much the same.

Wenn du mit "southern Germany" Oberbayern meinst, dann liegst du aber ganz schön falsch: "des is a Betriebssystem" passt schon eher. Interessant ist, dass dieses "a" wie ein hochdeutsches "a" gesprochen wird und geschlechtslos ist.
"a Maß Bier" sollte man nie übersetzen, obwohl es wohl "eine Maß" meint. Wenn ein zweiter Krug gewünscht wird, dann genügt als Bestellung: "no´ane" . Da wird das "ch" von "noch" und das "o" von "oane" (eine) weggelassen.

Zwei Männer gehen nach einer Halloweenparty nach Hause und beschließen, die Abkürzung über den Friedhof zu nehmen.Mitten zwischen den Gräbern hören sie plötzlich ein Geräusch aus dem dunklen kommen. Tock-tock-tock, tock-tock-tock.

Ängstlich gehen sie weiter und finden schließlich einen alten Mann, der mit Hammer und Meißel einen Grabstein bearbeitet.

Da fragt einer von beiden den alten Mann:"Alter Mann, Sie haben uns fast zu Tode erschreckt. Wir dachten schon, Sie wären ein Geist! Was arbeiten Sie denn hier mitten in der Nacht?"
"Diese Idioten!" murmelt der alte Mann "Die haben meinen Namen falsch geschrieben!"
