News European scientists set eyes on ice moon Europa

European scientists are meeting this week to consider their best option for exploring Europa, the moon of Jupiter.

They have a number of ideas that could fit as add-ons to US missions that are likely to be launched in the 2020s.

The concepts range from remote-sensing instruments to penetrators that would try to burrow beneath Europa's ice-encrusted surface.

Whatever option is chosen, it will first have to win the support of the European Space Agency.

When the Europa probe gets attacked by that thing we almost saw in the film I hope they get some good HD video of it before it destroys the vehicle.

Looks like Europa Europe is considering the offer NASA made a while ago.

Currently, it appears that NASA's Europa Clipper and lander will be launched on separate rockets, so there should be mass available for Europe's add-on.

EDIT: As I thought, NASA dropped the idea of a daughter European spacecraft. I don't know if this means ESA wouldn't be able to contribute. I'm updating the Europa Clipper thread.
