I normally wait till later in the year, but might be best to report this now...

The Eurovision Song Contest has hit a major road bump, after 21 top level staff organising the event resigned.
The Ukrainian Eurovision team say they were stripped of major responsibilities in December, when a new boss was appointed to the organising committee.

Wow. I wasn't expecting this thread here so early this year. :P

I wasn't much interested in listening to / watching this year's Eurovision, as I have different plans for that time, but this is getting interesting... I almost feel sorry I won't be watching the contest live... unless it's delayed because of this mess.

Well that thing was so ridiculously corrupted, it had to implode sooner or later

We Germans have just selected our candidate for the last place in the ranking, this will be a tough one for UK to beat. ;)

We in Poland apparently will be choosing our candidate this Saturday.

I just listened to proposed songs, and there's rather nothing that will do better than in earlier years (excluding 1994): a few ballads that don't stand out from other productions of this kind, a few songs in the "Eurovision style", which also won't stand out from others during the contest - there were plenty of such songs in Eurovision and I think neither of them did win since 90's, one in some pop-dance style that radios with contemporary music might like playing, one that is rather better for playing in clubs than competing in Eurovision, with no real chorus but repeating "ulalala" (I think I actually like this one the best after listening to them all :P), and one being sung in Polish which nobody eligible for voting for it in May would understand the lyrics.

I think you invited us back. No idea who we are sending...

Still not decided yet. Let me suggest Airbourne.

Yeah. But this time it is no special invitation from the country/city hosting the contest, but by some reference group panel. The rules have changed last year to make more countries eligible for participating, like Australia, China, USA, and it looks like Australia might be more permanent, unless there are too many countries wanting to be in the contest (>44).

I think the contestant/song will be publicly announced around the beginning of March. However I think it will hard to beat the last year. :)

No, no. Being propelled to Eurovision success is simply a means of promoting European cohesion. If you want to know what happens to countries who come last too often, just look at Britain ...

All someone has to do is hint that it is a sport and we will lump millions of dollars into trying to win it.

Somewhat related, it is 15 years since we won our first Winter Olympic medal: [youtube]

Three times? Odd - they seem to come last whenever I watch it (which, come to think about it, may have been around three times)

But then look at Norway - they didn't even want to join the EU in the first place! QED

Yes, but then Belgium is so EU, its their primary industry...

I don't think we did that bad, only 3 lasts with Luxembourg, Portugal and Malta. Interesting company.
UK has history in Portugal(Wellington up to no good), Malta got a George Cross during WWII, unique I think.

Luxembourg is home to the EBU and Eurovision Song Contest, they won't rock the boat.

And we have chosen a song for the next James Bond movie.

Worked great for Austria - even the beard was no showstopper then.

send all states individually to the ESC....
Currently impossible, but they could try sending 3 - from each of the EBU associate members TV networks: ABC, CBS, NBC. :P
