Falcon 9 at Cape Canaveral

I like the burning chunks of solid propellant falling in the parking lot in that video. Imagine explaining to your insurance company why your car got melted.

Actually, that is liquid fuel. Solid propellant does not explode so beautiful on impact.

Probably not, seeing as how the earliest possible launch date is a week from now.

Latest update on spacefightnow.com is that Falcon 9 will now launch no earlier than May 27 but this will conflict with the planned landing of Atlantis on the 26th. SpaceX is also still awaiting approval form th Air Force on the self destruct system.

Meanwhile the rocket sits there rusting away.....

The irony is that it is probably easier to create a FTS than to get it approved by the military?

I'm all for SpaceX, but their PR/website needs some serious help. Understanding that there are uncertainties in scheduling and launching a new rocket, it would still be nice if they could keep some running commentary on their best estimate for launch date and time.

Does anyone have any confirmation of the push-off to June 3, or are they still going to give it a try Sunday May 23?

It's pretty much official as the Delta IV with GPS IIF-I now has the range for the 23rd. All LV's get three days on the range(nominal launch date+48 hours for any scrubs) and it takes 48 hours to reconfigure the range systems between vehicles.

Arrgh all these delays freak me out :beathead: Why can't they launch from the same site where Falcon 1 launched. With Falcon 1 launches there never were problems with range safety, conflicts with other scheduled launches and whatnot.
