When I go to view a YouTube video and perhaps decide part way through that I don't want to watch it, I close the tab it's in, but FireFox continues to download the video (note: not download as in permanently store on computer, download as in load for viewing or whatever [the red bar]). The only way to stop it downloading is to close FireFox altogether which isn't always feasible. I've also tried unplugging and plugging my network connection back in, but that only delays it.
Thanks in Advance for any help,
Zat

Wait, if you've closed the tab its in, how are you still seeing the red progress bar?

Er, sorry, I meant [red bar] to make sure you guys knew I wasn't downloading like to watch later. I know it keeps going because I have BitMeter watching my network connection and can see the activity.

Bit of an update. I just discovered that PDF files will also keep downloading even if you close FireFox. To kill the DL, I'm having to disable, then reenable the network connection. And no, I went to the tools->Downloads window to see if I could stop it there, and the PDF file appeared, but was acting like it was fully downloaded.

it could be completely unrelated but that could explain why my internet seems slower if i cancel youtube movies in quick succession

If you want to stop the download, can't you just hit the "X"

Not even if you kill Firefox's processes in taskman?

Do you use some download accelerator?
