Project G42-200 StarLiner

as a bare minimum, the EFB could say merry christmas, happy halloween etc

on that note, will it include some of the automatic features similar to the DG? Because when i try re-entering, its either aerobraking or ending up in the atlantic. In a few... hundred... pieces. Not to mention im not to good at shuttle-like docking

well, the whole bay is yet in non-operating condition, so any docking is probably not a good idea right now :shifty:

as for reentering... there are no autopilots yet... and even i have still not attempted it (i think i will do that right next)

later, ppl

I have a question: don't know how hard it would be, but would it be possible to make the pilot meshes optional? Reason I ask is that if one tries to use TrackIR for example in the stock DG and moves a bit back the pilot's head mesh appears in front.

I'd be great if it was implemented!

Congrats on the progress made, anyway! :)

The head is only visible on the "other guy"... that is, if you're at the pilot's seat, the pilot model has only a torso and legs, and the other guy is a full person.

I think... Moach said it was gonna be like this, IDK if he got that in already

Cheers

Well that wouldnt make sense if you decided to sit in the flight engineers seat, plus i'd think it'd be a little creepy at that point.

Then again, thats just IMO.

Cheers

Ok then that makes sense. And Im guessing it will be full when viewing the aircraft from outside. Or the windows are completely tinted. Either one of those two.

i got that all set already - the VC is actually made of 3 separate models, one for the "common stuff" (which is most of it), one for whatever is visible from the pilots side and another for what the engineer side can see...

the latter two are swapped when you press TAB (or click around the other guy), so you never have your "own head" getting in the way, regardless of which side you're sitting

it also helps in keeping the poly-count down (i only model what you can see)

when you look at the cockpit from outside, you can actually kinda see what's inside, but again, it's not the same models, instead the "ext cockpit" is a VERY low-poly mockup of the sillhouettes of what would be visible(ish) from outside... painted black, you can only see their contours when lined up against the opposite side windows... which is more reallistic, IMHO

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer flying in an empty cockpit. It just seems better than having unmoving expressionless dummies sitting next to me. They kind of make me feel like I'm a crash test dummy. :P

yeah... but at least some of the animations liven up the cockpit a bit i suppose.

yes, the expressions on the pilots faces is not something to leave unconsidered... i've always thought that chick on the XR2 looks a bit on the crazy side... i mean, man, she doesn't ever blink :uhh:

my plan is to put a non-creepy photograph as the face textures... if done right, it shouldn't look or feel weird at all...

now, as for WHO shall have their mugs textured on the pilot and engineer model, is still half undecided....
i just might use my own face for the pilot... (c'mon, i'm not THAT ugly, right?) and for the engineer, i was thinking either the good dr. Schweiger or James Hetfield from Metallica....

Martin has less hair... which makes him easier to model, tho... dunno if he would mind

further on there will be passengers/science-folks on the rear cabin (whenever i decide to actually start modelling that area), so more faces can join the club then

Thanks for the answers! :) And Izack, I hear you on being used to fly in an empty plane, might be because of MSFS.

an empty cockpit makes the whole craft seem deserted and lonely, i think its better to have inanimate people, then use some imagination, or perhaps moach will be able to make some animations of the pilot/engineer, as was mentioned earlier, anything is possible with C++

@Moach
Martin has less hair..

After the finishing of Orbiter 2010, i guess hes completly hairless  Sorry

You could also put in Randall Munroe of xkcd ;)

That mugshot of him can work just fine. (even more so because he has a very "average" face).

Cheers

What about putting helmets on them?
No creepy faces, no unblinking eyes.

Helmets would be required anyway if you're flying into space?

I was about to say the same thing. It'd be cool if they were reflective also.

Thanks halcyon you saved me several keystrokes.
