Project G42-200 StarLiner

Where should I be doing my deorbit burn? I can't seem to find a point that results in an acceptable AoA for reentry. Just trying to do a basic Aerobrake MFD reentry.

Should I put my perigee half an orbit ahead of the target base? More, less?

Also, what is the exact requirement for scram ignition? Is there a speed/altitude check before it will light?

treat it like the shuttle, the aerodynamics are roughly similar, and you can always to a RAMCASTER/turbojet phase if you're off by a few hundred miles

Been doing a lot of suborbital flights, this thing is almost perfectly suited for it. After the scrams burn out, it can surf halfway around the world with the wings in reentry mode.

Sure needs better brakes, though, there isn't a runway in Orbiter long enough to land this pig on.

Errrr... tried the checklist, couldn't even get her moving... How do you get it to burn?
Sorry, old checklist excludes some things...you now need to open the fuel pumps in order to start the main engines. They're on the engineer's side, in front/right of you.

Got this out for a short flight yesterday. The lag I reported earlier is totally gone, and the G42 is even sweeter to fly. Many thanks for this piece of awesome.

How to make starliner working again? I didn't modified orbiter after installing WIP 2

Scenarios just makes CTD or MFDs show weird things.

When I create that ship, I can't see its texture - its nothing.
Congratulations, you have successfully broken both Time. I vote this in as Orbiter Glitch of the Year. O.o

I cant find it anywhere. can you give me a snapshot of the fuel pumps and the oxygen controls

turbine_start.jpg

That's how you start the turbines. Don't ask me about the rest because I haven't gotten that far yet. :P

Thanks for the pics but what im trying to do is to activate the rockets to get up to orbit. I know how to activate the ramcaster and the jet engines but not the rockets

turbine cycle to cut, mode switch to int(ernal), turn the onboard oxy feeds on, then put turbine cycle to run. increase throttle before the engines finish spooling up or they will not ignite.

Very nice!
I feel like a test pilot :)

-lots of touch and go tests, all good. I found the lowest landing speed at full weight was 130 m/s and empty was close to 70-80 m/s.

-apu, turbines, ramcaster and thrusters work when used according to design. I'll test more to see I can mess things up. It's nice to see stuff like the ramcaster flameout at high aoa. Very nice work!

[EDIT] Found: APU not needed to start the turbines.

Minor bug with RCS/OMS standby ignition switches:

1) flip standby ignition rcs and oms switches on
2) exit orbiter
3) restart orbiter - note that when it loads the RCS ROT | OMS does not show on the hud.
4) flip standby ignition rcs switch off then back on - hud will show RCS ROT |
5) flip standby ignition oms switch off then back on - hud will show | OMS but will not show RCS ROT even though the switch is up

This is minor, and I think it has to do with a variable not getting restored when orbiter restarts.

*Growls*
By hell, Moach, put a real handbook on that breathlooking bird, i'm gonna turn crazy, here.

I want this bird up, and now, but no ways to find several elements and procedures to do so, so go on and do us a "for the orbiter noob" proper checklist manual! :P

Awesome job, as I am, man. ^^
Please, go on and finish the job!
Want volunteers for formalize a manual?

yes, this is a known bug - and it's caused simply by the fact that the RCOMS (Reaction Control And Orbital Maneuvering System) state isn't saved to the scenario file yet... so you gotta cycle it back after reloading if you had it on before.... a nuisance, i'm aware - will be fixed before WIP-4

and ok, i reckon the next step is to write a proper flight manual for this thing, explaining all it does and how to do it.... i hope i can put it together still this week, then update the WIP-3 release in the hangar to mark 303, thus completing the WIP-3 cycle - from then it's on to WIP-4

i should have done this before... i mean, this major-minor version scheme... i find it allows releasing less signifficant updates closer to each other while still setting long(er)-time goals as progress milestones to develop towards :hmm: (this type of self-organization is critical when you have A.D.D. and wanna get anything done )

i might fix the above bug and add the manual before i start calling it WIP-4.... we'll see

nice to see you're all having fun with it - it makes all the work really pay off

Hi,Moach,found a bug, the mouse cursor disappears,and won't appear again,every once,and a while in the 3D cockpit view.

this is strange...

and at first, it strikes me as most likely an unrelated deal, since there's nothing the G42 does which would (intentionally) affect the cursor in any way :shifty:....

can you confirm it doesn't happen with any other craft? (and is this with the graphics client or inline? fullscreen, windowed? etc...)

the G422 dll has no code whatsoever dealing directly with the mouse cursor - the closest it does is set up the mouse action areas (clickable stuff) but then it just lets orbiter do the rest of the "dirty work" :hmm:

I've noticed this on other things. it happens to me if I'm dragging the camera around with the mouse, and I release it while the (invisible) cursor is under/over another window (SCnEdit in most cases). I suspect this is an orbiter or OS thing.
